Called Santa’s Little Helper, Winter Warming. The body was hazy dark copper wit a yellowish khaki head. The aroma was cinnamon and clove. There was also a woody note. The taste was lightly sweet with some wood and a piney, waxy character. hezron (614) - Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 24, 2005
Served too cold in a 5oz pilsner sample glass, but the bartender provided me a snifter on request.
Light hoppy aroma with some brapefruit and piney notes. Malt is prominent with some caramel and dried fruit. Perhaps I let it warm to long, but the aroma seemed just a little too subtle, even in the snifter. Dark, amber brown in color with a thin, but lasting head. Sweet caramel, bready flavor with some raisins and molasses and a light pine hop bitterness in the sweet, malty finish. Full bodied and creamy with soft carbination. Shows potential, just needs a little more umph compared to some other barleywines. It was my favorite (suprise) beer of the six I tried.
