Look into the heart of darkness of this pitch black beauty. Take in the sweet caramel and roasted malty notes on the nose with a suggestion of the bacon goodness within. This full-bodied, rich and creamy oatmeal stout trots out a bold, unbridled taste that comes from a unique infusion of local Ottawa Valley heritage-raised “Pork of Yore” fine bacon. Blending in roasted malt and oatmeal for a solid footing, this smooth, dark beer has the perfect finish hinting of the fine swine contained within.

660ml bottle, black color, with a thick creamy tan-colored head, with a sweet chocolate, toasted, biscuity, pale, roasted, oat malty, brown chocolate nose,with some chocolate chip cookie dough, mocha, light cappuccino, faint maple ice-cream, chocolate pie crust accents, and a brownie, faint coffee, toffee note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate, with a smooth chocolate cake, brown chocolate, light milk chocolate, coffee, chocolate chip oatmeal cookie dough, burnt toast character, with some molasses, chocolate, oat, toasted, caramelized, biscuity, roasted, black malty, ashy, maple, cappuccino flavours, leading towards a chocolatey, mochaish, maple, sweet chocolate, oat, toasted, caramelized, biscuity, roasted maltiness, lingering burnt toasted, coffee bitterness finish.

Hey look! Another gimmicky brew with a pun in the name. I didn’t want to buy it but I did & now here I am. This is a bit of a mess. The stout itself seems to be the problem. Not much presence in the flavour profile, a strange vegetable broth on the nose, & not really in the big leagues of an oatmeal stout. Then they add the bacon & its just muddy, with a slight smokiness. Ive infused bourbon with bacon -- it’s a bit of a process to get right -- but I’m not sure it works in this beer. The horror, the horror.

Clearish brew with a dark brown colour. Mutred aroma, with oats, roast and toast. I don’t get alot a of rind or bacon on the palate. Smooth beer with a bit of roast. Wishing it had more punch for sure. Gimmicky and a huge let down.

Pours dark dark brown with red hues. short creamy white head. Nose of sweet woody smoke, and roast. It’s not all that smoky. Some residual bitter woody smoke notes carry through. Brown sugar. Pie crust. On a whole; the mouthfeel is a bit thin for an oatmeal stout. And the taste, is more sweet. Not the sweet and salty I was looking for. I’ve had bacon/hock stock before. This doesn’t have that flavour. The smokiness of the beer just seems to be sourced from malts dried over a fire... then only 10% of those were mixed in with regular malt. Tastes of Hallowe’en Candy Kisses offering twinges of salty presence. It’s not a bad beer. Must be better on tap. Good potential for food pairing. There’s room for improvement in something with such a cool name and style potential.

Black pour with a small light brown head. Aroma is roasty, with the slightest bit of smoke and some subtle sweet malts. Watery mouth feel, medium carb. The bacon leaves only the slightest hint of smoke, and that’s it. Watery beer with a solid roasty malt note and that’s about it.

650 mL bottle. Nice pour. Smells like a sweet stout, minus the lactose, with some added brown sugar. Don’t really get the bacon, either in the nose or mouth, although I do taste some smoke. Which is nice. Needs a little more from the roasted malt, though. Oatmeal helps the mouthfeel, although it’s certainly not a big beer.

Bière noire et intense mais pas nécessairement très riche ou épaisse ; nez sucré avec un peu de fumée et du chocolat, par-dessus des céréales grillées. La bouche est plutôt mince, le bacon ne se pointe le bout de la truffe qu’en toute fin de gorgée, et les malts sont délibérément discrets. Une bière agréable, malgré sa minceur et le côté curiosité qui n’est pas totalement satisfait. Un stout clair qui ne livre la marchandise qu’à moitié.

Done pretty well for a gimmicky concept. Bacon is just right enough to work. Smoky light bacon combines with good roast malt aroma. Pours black without much head or lacing. Average carbonation. Finishes a little meaty, a little bitter and definitely salty from the bacon. Tap at Arrow and Loon.

Very drinkable nice mildly smoked stout. Poured with light head and opaque dark brown base. Very clean and drinkable. Nice extra dimension. Very well brewed. I would try again.
