Look into the heart of darkness of this pitch black beauty. Take in the sweet caramel and roasted malty notes on the nose with a suggestion of the bacon goodness within. This full-bodied, rich and creamy oatmeal stout trots out a bold, unbridled taste that comes from a unique infusion of local Ottawa Valley heritage-raised “Pork of Yore” fine bacon. Blending in roasted malt and oatmeal for a solid footing, this smooth, dark beer has the perfect finish hinting of the fine swine contained within.

Subtle aroma of coffee, chocolate, and very faint notes of bacon. Opaque dark brown color with a minimal head. Medium body with an average carbonation. Mild bitterness with some sweetness. Unfortunate absence of bacon flavour, but still a solid beer

Had a 4oz. sampler at the Ottawa Winterbrewed festival. Now rating a pint on tap at Arrow and Loon. Arrived with barely any head, just a thin ring around inside. Has a dark brown appearance. Fairly weak lacing. Aromas of mild roasted malts with hints of chocolate. Flavours are of dark roasted malts as well as chocolate and hints of caramel and molasses. Getting a bit of the bacon flavour in the aftertaste and mostly in the finish. Slightly smokey as well. Mild bitterness on the palate. A little bit of a watery mouthfeel. The bacon is a bit faint, just enough to get some hints of it. Pretty good stuff.

smells of salt and dark beer. Head is just like coke a cola. Gone fast. Just like cola it has same sound as you go to take a sip. some salt some water, some chocolate and a little sour. Thin for a stout, medium-heavy bodied, no oatmeal in its listings. Some sips too salty. Lacks bacon and stout taste and too thin.

Dark cherry brown body, most definitely not black. Very thin head, that rapidly disappears altogether. Mouthfeel is very thin for a stout. Aromas of chocolate and not much else. No oatmeal, no coffee, and definitely no bacon. Tastes are a rehash of the aromas. This tastes like a weak version of a chocolate milk stout. As a beer, I can drink this and semi-enjoy it, but as a stout, especially an oatmeal bacon stout, it is a miserable failure. I won’t trash it in the score, as it is drinkable, but what WERE they thinking?

Bottle: Poured a clear black color stout with a small brown foamy head with limited retention and no lacing. Aroma of smoked malt with weird off flavours is not really enticing. Taste is a mix between some weird off grainy flavours with malt with gross residual sugar notes. Body is light with medium carbonation. I have a hard time understanding how this beer was ever though as a good idea.

bomber. Poured dark mahogany with a receding mocha head. Roasty malt aroma but subdued. Body is full and rich, tight carbonated bubbles with a slight dusty mouthfeel. Flavour is mainly roasted malts, a bit smokey with dark fruit and tart cherry notes. I didn’t get any real bacon flavour in this beer other than it’s smokiness.

czar (9614) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 9, 2015
pours unclear light brown mahogany with a small light beige-red cap, some retention and lacing. burnt caramel, brown malts, salty and chalky - lots of minerals, lightly smoked roasted maltiness - not really bacony, licorice and other spices - cloves. light carbonation, light body - oily but lacking; drying yet balanced lightly smoked-grassy finish. roasted profile, body corpulence and smoky-bacony character lacks, but this pale-ish stout makes a good confit d’oignons.

Bomber from the LCBO. Pours fairly dark. Slight reddish tinge. Lots of head initially, but quickly disappeared.Aroma is caramel, smoke, smoked meat. Bacon is certainly present in the nose, but that?s where it ends. Flavour is that of burnt caramel, roasted barley, some sweeter malts. No bacon to speak of. Smoke is not as pronounced as I would have thought, either. A little on the thin side for a stout, in my opinion and a little too carbonated for my taste, but not bad. Clean aftertaste, nothing really left on my palate except a bit of bitterness. It?s good, but I was expecting more from this beer.

kevinsenn (2310) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 16, 2015
Bottle from LCBO. Light creamy aroma. Smoky and salty taste with grainy and roasty notes.

HopsandBolts (258) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 13, 2015
660 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with finger of off white head. Slight retention and lots of lacing.

Aroma: Grain, cereal, hint of smoke.

Flavours: Grain, cereal, smoke, salt.

Mouthfeel: Very thin with light carbonation.

Overall: I was expecting bacon in either the aroma or flavour but got it on neither. Lots of grain and cereal but no bacon. To quote Clara Peller in the old 80s Wendy’s commercials "Where’s the beef?!" or rather the bacon? This is an okay stout, although it is pretty thin, but there is no bacon just grain.
