Cask at the brewery tap. Pours deep brown-black with a creamy, tan head. Hard roast in the nose, ash, burnt earth. Medium sweet flavour with some further strong roast, dried dark fruits, baking cocoa. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Bitter finish, more ash and baking cocoa. On tap at Hopshead, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, some bready malt and perfumey notes. Pint at the brewery. Good looking beer with a rich black body and firm khaki head. Good clarity on this one too. The aroma is roasty with notes of dark fruits, leather, coffee, cacao. Palate is nice and creamy even on CO2 compared to the cask. Very clean and malty rich flavor with pleasantly roasty and meaty notes. What a solid English porter.
