Danish: Lys, frugtig ale efter engelsk forbillede med masser af smag fra Marris Otter malten og den originale Whitbread gær. Duften er krydret med Saazer humle, og den fyldige øl har tydelig humlekarakter.

English: A light, fruity English inspired ale with lots of flavour from the Marris Otter malts and the original Whitbread yeast. The aroma is spiced with Saazer hops and the full-bodied beer has a distinct hop character.

Bottle 50cl.
Clear light to medium yellow orange color with a small, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20090515]

CBf07 sample from tap. Pours golden orange with a little lacing head, looks really good. Aroma is mouldy, buttery. Flavour is dry malty and not bitter at all. Vague finish. Flavour and aroma is a let down compared to the expectations raised by the visual appearance, sadly.

An unclear dark orange beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity combined with notes of brew mash, the hops can only very vaguely be noticed, if You specifically try to find them. The flavor is very sweet with an acidic note to it - I beleive it is due to some miscue in the brewing - as well as notes of metal. On the positive side it has strong notes of fruit. I really can’t tell that this is an IPA, since the hops are so vague, so I’d say except for the name, this should be listed as a Premium Bitter.

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy amber coloured with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of malts with notes of fruits and hops. Sweet flavour with notes of fruits, malts and hops. Light hoppy finish. The body is a bit thin. More English Pale Ale than Indian Pale Ale.

Bottled. Golden colour with a small slightly off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, grass, mild citrusy notes as well as some slight notes of yeast. Flavour is bready malts, some grass, wood and mild yeasty and berryish notes.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2006 [Draught at Købehavnske Øldage] Clear golden. The aroma has more diacetyl than I’ve ever sensed before, It’s sweet with rounded mouthfeel. The butterscotchy diacetyl is so powerful that no other flavour has a chance to come through. I usually like diacetyl, but this is ridiculous.

Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 23, 2005
(On tap) Hazy orangey golden with a small, creamy head of a very fine structure. It collapses rather quickly though. Low carbonation. Weak floral aroma. Lovely fruitiness on the base of a rather light body. Dry, short bitterness - but not an overpowering one. I miss some more potency and some real ale/IPA hops instead of Saazer. As of now this has too much of a Pilsener feel. 230805

Draught at Kobenhavnske Oldage, May 2006. Sold simply as Holbaek India Pale Ale, but I assume it has been renamed since then. Let’s hope the beer has been revamped since then too. I thought the Vesterbro IPA was bad, but this was worse. As others have noted, this was so laden with diacetyl and raw malt that any other characteristics were completely eclipsed. Clearly something has gone wrong here. But if it has, the brewery should be brave enough to admit that and not serve it up. Frankly terrible - I’ll have to give it another chance as I can’t imagine it can be this bad normally. PS. I visited the brewpub on my 2007 visit but this beer wasn’t available so I haven’t been able to give it a second chance yet.

Muddy blond color. Uninviting baking yeast smell. Dry mouthfeel, with very yeasty flavor.
