3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A very smooth (especially for an 8% alcohol percentage) beer. A nice dubbel style ale. A honey/vegemite(!) aroma, taste has some cognac in it. Very nice and smooth, but just misses a little bit of ’oomph’
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2016 500ml bottle, poured a murky brown with some red hue showing in the light. Head dissipated immediately after pouring. A nice aroma with some choc and nice yeast esters coming through. Quite smooth and warming to drink but a little bit underwhelming. babymammoth (63) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 18, 2016
Solid ale. Very true to the style with decent balance, good malt biscuit notes with hints of toffee and coffee, over ripe bananas. Very smooth, with hints of dates on the palette. Good acid notes leaving orange citrus characters. Long finish. Reminds me of brandy pudding, dessert beer Patersoi (192) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2016
Has all the build up of a trappist ale but fails to deliver the intensity of the alcohol and caramel and floral funk from a real one. Nice but just a facimile. wrlangin (230) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2016

500 ml bottle. Pours dark red with low tan head. Good aroma of malt and fruit. Really low carbonation on my bottle. One of the hallmarks of Belgians is the soft but strong fermentation, which this beer was sorely missing. It definitely detracted from the beer.

Nose is too blocked to provide a quantifiable sniff test. Whilst recommended to be sipped in moderation, the flattish carbonation (big head on pouring) and lovely burnt toffee/dark chocolate flavours combine to make it very easy to put away.

Clear brown color, brown head. Banana, sweet, malty scent. Sweet, banana taste. Sweet, spicy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.
Bottle from Beer Cartel (Sept 2014). Murky copper-brown, off-white head, candy sugar, toffee, dates/sultanas, Belgian yeast, liqueur-like texture, sweet slightly boozy finish. Good. Maris (1625) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - APR 21, 2015
From a 500ml bottle on 21/4/2015. Pours a dark golden brown with a medium head. The nose is sweet and malty, with some dark fruit presenting, along with some Belgian yeast. Taste wise, it’s very sweet and dessert like, with lots of toffee, butterscotch, brown sugar, caramel and plum. Has the distinct abbey ale yeasty character, with a modest bitterness finishing things off. The palate is syrupy and sticky, with average to lively carbonation. This really is very good - actually much better than most Belgian dubbels I’ve tried. maneliquor (3514) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - FEB 4, 2015
Bottle tasted at Mane. Pours clear to hazy golden yellow with a sticky white cap on top. Nose is quite sweet and full of candied sugars and mild banana. The taste is very sweet candied sugars, mildly herbal and grassy with sweet toffee. It’s a pretty decent shout at a Dubbel but probably a little sweet for my liking, but then most Belgian Ales are. Solid stuff Andresvendsen (199) - - AUG 2, 2014
