4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Murky almost brown with a small tan head. Strong mocha aroma, tons of vanilla and rum, ripe plumb and a hint of vegemite...
Palate is smooth at first, but when the sweetness dissipates, it becomes almost harsh coffee and leaves some dry cocoa feel. Similarly, the flavours start with a sweet chocolate/rum/dark fruit and finish more towards the coffee vegemite thing. Wonderfully complex and drinkable.
On tap at I'm happy, Chiang Mai.
Thin off white head. Clear black pour. Lovely chocolate aftertaste. aussiealchemist (65) - Berwick Victoria, AUSTRALIA - AUG 12, 2017
Bottle at Kalista Tea House. Pours opaque brownish black with tan head that dissipates. Medium carbonation. Aroma bitter chocolate, roast barley and black coffee Flavour is mostly black roasted malts with some citrus notes. Vanilla not prominent. Taste is quite bitter and slightly sour. Some residual sweetness on the tongue. Palate is reasonably thin for the style. Overall OK but not outstanding. Dollers (1) - - JUL 28, 2017 does not count
Rich and chocolatey with a great aftertaste. Brilliant local porter. Expensive but worth it.

Clear dark purple brown beer, creamy solid beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: pretty roasted, heavy, some dark chocolate, coffee touch, dusty, cocoa powder. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty roasted, bit sourish, dark chocolate, some coffee, bitter hops. Aftertaste: more roast, some caramel, cocoa powder, very roasted, dark chocolate, bitter finish.
On tap at Hair of the Dog Phrom Phung, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out dry cocoa powder and toasted malt. Flavour is aggressive on the palate, with dry cocoa powder and dry toasted malt. Aggressive carbonation, almost like a champagne. Strange but it works. Tap at Refuge - great roasty aroma - tastes more roasty than chocolatey - solid porter but not exciting - needs more chocolate thrust and creaminess IMHO. Missing the ’X’ factor needed to elevate it into stratospheric enjoyment. Dervock (1512) - AUSTRALIA - JUN 11, 2017
Bottle - pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, and roast malt. Taste is roast malt and chocolate with a burnt sugar middle and a drying finish. tomer (3853) - Rishon Le Zion, ISRAEL - JUN 6, 2017
At a tasting, thanks, smallish bubbly head, very deep brown color, aroma of coal, chocolate and dark bread, stromg flavor of coal with dark bread and licorice, mellow light to medium bitterness. Nice, smooth and enjoyable.
