A true summer thirst quencher! This refreshing Wheat Beer is styled after the famous "wit bier" or white beer of Belgium and similar to the German "wiess biers". It is a hazy light yellow in colour, and during fermentation takes on a white appearance. Holgate White Ale is based on a special combination of wheat and barley malts, lightly hopped and loaded with a delicate combination of fresh Orange Peel and ground corriander seeds - all combining to make a refreshing and easy drinking Ale, perfect for summer conditions.

Bottled. Cloudy dark yellow with stable head. Odd aroma of licorice, oranges and oregano. Sweet and mild, with notes of vanilla. Pizza-like oregano finish.

Hazy pale yellow; pungent, herbaceous nose with some appropriate phenols and plenty of spice. Very fizzy, and has too much Band-Aid in the palate, but otherwise has a good level of spice and malt.

DuffMan (10665) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 14, 2005
Pale hazy yellow, fizzy head. Thin body, generally an unremarkable example of the style.

330 ml bottle. Pale yellow, cloudy beer with a thick lasting white head. Massive coriander and orange peel aroma. Some bubble gum and some candyish sweetness as well. Flavour is quite juicy. Big coriander and citrus flavours. Wheaty dryness and spice on the finish along with some dusty yeast.

looked so nice and dirty dishwatery coming out of the bottle. very morish, just enough spice to keep you interested. easily the best australian wit though the competition isn't much to speak of; I think eczematic's fudge wit is in 2nd place

330ml bottle. Slightly darker in colour than expected, though this is not a bad thing. Level vibrant white foam cap. Orange peel and spice carry through to the nose and the flavour is pleasing in the mouth but doesn’t linger and is fairly light on the palate.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2003 Had this one again tonight after not having it for a while. I liked it a lot better than the last time. This time i picked up a lot more spice and clove. It still had a slightly thin, spritzy body like i remember, but the flavour and balance weren't as sticky or bland as i remember. At times it tastes quite Belgian and at times it has a German wheat sort of flavour, quite good. But fails to take the next step. Re-rate: had this again recently, man, was it bad this time, stale sweaty, off-putting aroma as eczematic mentions, veru odd.

Bottle. Yellow beer with a small white head that fades fast.Smells of oranges and coriander. Watery and bland. I last had one of these maybe ten years ago and it was massively overcarbonated and kind of bad-funky and metallic. I then didn’t try any of their other beers for many years, which turned out to be a mistake. But this one is poor.

Decent frothy head veryu good carb, yellow pour, aroma floral spice rich fruity, wheat goodness, flavour differet to the aroma green banana strong floral overtaste with wheat and fruit peel, the bitter has an off taste of medicine, nasty at the finish, not good after a good start.

bluevegie (3938) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 12, 2004
Very short head that didn’t hang around at all. Cloudy straw coloured body. The aroma was of lemon and zest and the taste was pretty much the same as the aroma with maybe some cloves coming through. The body was a bit thin and overall it was pretty average.
