On tap @ Hollister. Clear orange pour with a white head. Big kumquat and grapefruit aromas. Some bread, quite a bit of pine, and a bit of woody herbs. Flavor is on the bitter side. Lots of herbs, wood, and pine. Kumquat, grapefruit peel, and some hints of orange. A light malt sweetness. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Tap at Toronado SD. Clear light golden, pretty much no head. Flavor of woody spicy hops, light pine. No tropical that Pete talks about. Doesn’t necessarily taste old, either. Seems full of Chinook, which I don’t really like. Has a weird metallic sorta fruity (not hops) thing going on towards the finish, which was Semi dry. Bitterness peaked at a 4. I waited to critique the aroma til I got 1/2way thru. More woody than spicy, and still not in a good way (for me). Medium full body with low carbonation. Waste of calories. It only took an ounce to realize this wasn’t my thing. 6-2-6-3-11--2.8 peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - OCT 9, 2012
Tap @ brewpub. Glowing and hazy golden/yellow in the glass with a slick of white foam. Aroma is a dank mixture of hops showing pine, balanced bitterness, white wine, and light tropical fruit over a dry, lightly bready malt backbone. Taste is juicy hop bitterness and pine with some citrus over a clean and dry malt backbone. Clean and balanced with appropriate heft for the ABV. Hugely drinkable, excellent IPA.
