18/IV/17 - 500ml bottle from a trade @ American BBQ Guy Tasting (ElManana+1’s place) - BB: 2/I/18 (2017-462) Thanks to Val and Neill for the trade!

Clear dark brown beer, creamy irregular beige to brown head, pretty stable, adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, bit fruity, some caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty, grains, bitter, bit hoppy, some chocolate. Aftertaste: soft roast, pretty bitter and hoppy, some caramel, bit medicinal, malty finish.

Bottle from Morrisons. Deep dark reddish mahogany in colour, off white head slowly fades. Lightish aroma of malt and spice, medium to full body, slightly sweet, nice spice and zesty undertones, good longish finish. Good stuff!

allmyvinyl (11189) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 6, 2016
500ml bottle from Morrisons. Pours very dark clear brown with a creamy head. Aromas of burnt sugar, faint dried herbs, some sweet creaminess, boozy fruitcake. Taste is instant coffee, cream, light chocolate. Thick mouthfeel. Dry finish. Good strong ale.

Smells like cow shit and stale cigarette smoke. Tastes of roasted malts and blackberries. Bitter/sweet finish, quite smoky on the back end. The taste is strong. Feels like I could have a couple of these as a meal replacement.

JKaranka (60) - Cardiff, WALES - JAN 5, 2016
Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights. Smells of sweet malts and sugarcane. The flavour is mellow but picks up as it warms up (this beer is nicer and more complex around 12-15c). Mellow barley, some caramel, sugarcane and molasses. A note of caramelised sultanas in there. The flavours are there but are of moderate intensity. It’s medium-heavy bodied, not too thick, drinkable. Feels somewhat sweet but finishes bittersweet, with the bitterness lingering around as you drink.

50cl shared bottle at work, found in the fridge. Body is black, head is medium, beige, creamy, mostly lasting, good lacing. Nose is sourish, flavor is malt, mild, coffee, light chocolate, hint of herbs. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Finish is medium lasting roasty medium bitter, later cocoa and toffee stays bit longer. Medium body, dry texture, average carbonation. Easy dessert beer.

500ml bottle from Morrisons Supermarket. Very pleasantly surprised. Dark ale, 6%, good strong flavour. The aroma is sweet caramel/chocolate with a liquorice hint. The flavour follows that with predominant sweetness with a viscous mouthfeel. I could get drunk on this easily.

Bottle shared at the tropical Croydon tasting at Paul’s. 01/07/2015. Reddy / caramel brown coloured pour with a loose light tan head. Aroma is farmyard, dirty, stale malts, malty, some alcohol. Flavour is composed of nutty malts, metallic notes, spicy rough bitterness. Some jammy fruits in the Irish. Palate is medium sweet, little papery. Bad.

Bottle. The last time I came across this was in a long time closed off licence in Hackney. It was considered a rare beer then-I bought this one from Morrison’s. Dark brown with a medium head. Lovely flavour that lingers. A medium body and an impressive beer. A blast from the past that hasn’t mellowed with time.

Hanoi (981) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - AUG 25, 2015
Bottle on an ASDA deal as part of budget month. Nose is muted, dark malts, some fruit cake, raisin, dry bread yeast note, slight herbal hop note. Taste is dark malts, bread, must, raisins, slight sherry, red berry’s. The finish is dry, nutty and slightly metallic. Mouthfeel is too thin for the style. The beer never really get’s going, and offer surprisingly little taste or depth for it’s high ABV.
