It pours dark with minimal head. Definite roasted flavors with strong dark chocolate overtones. Much more carbonation on the palate than the minimal head would give an indication of. Slight pomegranate taste which is not easily noticeable over the chocolate and coffee overtones. It’s a delicious brew. punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - JUN 23, 2008
08 bottle thanks to jayg. Black pour with a short-lived, tan, 1 finger head. Chocolate, sweetened coffee, brown sugar and slight dark fruit aroma. Boozy, fruity chocolate flavor with a slight bitter coffee finish. Oily full body with lots of carbonation. Enniskillen (2061) - Bakersfield, California, USA - JAN 18, 2009
Bottle shared by CapFlu from Oakes. Black with brown edges thin cream head. Aroma is a very roasty pomegranate with milk chocolate faint hoppiness, caramel. Taste is a very rich chocolate with pomegranate coming through in the aftertaste with a light roastiness and smoke- light toffee. Pretty interesting good stuff. Pours a deep opaque brown, like dark chocolate, with a nice tan head. Smoky aroma is strongly of fine roast coffee and has a hint of pomegranate. Mouth-filling flavor has tones of coffee and unsweetened chocolate as well as a pomegranate hint. Mouthfeel is lively and tingly, and finish is pleasingly smooth. nbutler11 (1305) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - FEB 25, 2009
UNDERRATED. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10. Pours black with an amber tint around the edges and a fizzy brown head that quickly dissapates, but maintains some carbonation. Smells of toasted malts, dark cocoa and cherry cough syrup. Builds in flavor with the cherry turning to a sweeter pomengranate taste. Starts dry with a bit of smoke, but finishes a little sticky. This is the MACK!

Coffee notes hit the nose and palate. Thick molasses mouth feel. Heavy ale, but very tasty. Rated 4/9/10 daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 19, 2008
On tap in Plantation, FL. This is nice. Very nice actually. No real hint of the pomegranate, just a nice chocolate and coffee scented beer with some of the same flavors on the palate. Pours very dark with a very small head. Good amount of hops. Well done. Magjayran (1379) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAY 1, 2008
I’m baffled. It didn’t really seem like the best idea. This black ale has a small head. It has lots of roasted coffee in the aroma and a bit of tangy pom. The acidity of the pomegranate compliments the roasted malt flavors PERFECTLY. Seriously fantastic tasting. I need more. fiver29 (1112) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - OCT 3, 2008
Bottle pours black with thin tan head. Aroma is coffee, cherry, roasty, and sweetness. Has a heavy mouthfeel to it. Taste is rich, smooth coffee and chocolate, subtle fruit notes, and has a creamy finish to it. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. Its a very good beer and I think is highly overrated.
