COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our prize-winning mead - Gold medal award winner in the Speciality Category at the 2006 International Mead Festival in Boulder, Colorado. A semi sweet mead (approx 20g/l residual sugar) with rooibos, honeybush tea, cinnamon and apple. The herbs provide a smooth structure to the mead with a lingering honey aftertaste. Ideally served at 12-14 degrees Celsius, in a large red wine glass to allow development of the nose. A good stand alone sundowner, a well matched partner to spicy dishes and stir fries, game and poultry and a companion to desserts and coffees.

Rating 1,700! Entered on my 50th birthday! And a new country to boot. Bottle at Bavarian Lodge, Lisle. So why aren’t there more ratings from the Chicago contingent? Sorry if I’m overenthused about this, but this does deliver everything its promised. Still mead with a clear, honey yellow color. Smell of apple wassail and pumpkin pie spice. The taste continues that spiced apple theme, adding cinnamon and bergamont in slippery liquid sunshine. A bit of sour backup just in the middle that makes my eyes roll up a bit. Great dry finish. Get down and try this!

I absolutely love this Mead. Had my first taste of it at the Jealous Monk in Mystic, CT and could not find it locally. Now my local Wine Shop orders it special for me. It is very smooth with a wonderful combination of flavors and a nice honey ending.

Sampled at Vintage Estate this mead poured a dark tan-brown color. The aroma was vinegar and tea. The flavor was vinegar, honey, tea, mild vague herbs and an earthy presence. Very long vinegar finish. Moderately full bodied. Not good.

Bottle. Clear golden yellow color, with legs. Aroma of fresh meadow, Christmas spice. Taste is floral, spiced, mostly dry finish. Very tasty.

Biting Alcohol aroma with herbal notes. The start is mild, but a followed by a rush of honey, warmth, apple, and just a *touch* of cinammon. Acidic. The fruit and honey linger, as does the glowing, warm feeling. This is actually quite fantastic.

Bottle at home. I’ve had zymatore versions of this mead but needed to try original for comparison and the south Africa tick. Pours orange with lovely nose of honey and perfume. Tastes of honey but not too sweet, herbal, perfume, red fruit, apples, and boat loads of rooibos tea (which I love). Really drinkable and good mead.

Tasted at Greg’s honey-themed beer gathering, thanks for sharing Vyvvy. It poured a slightly hazy medium amber colour, still, no foam nor lace. Intense, well-blended flavours of flowery honey, apple, cinnamon, hibiscus…HUGE herbal aromas. Medium body and complex mouthfeel, lingering sweet aftertaste. Extremely well-crafted, highly recommended.

Draft in a sampler at Ei8ht Ball. Confirmed that this was the Herbal one. Pours a totally clear, piss-pale yellow with no head or lace. There’s definitely some peppery spice in here along with herbs and honey, and there’s a bit of a white grape note, as well. Medium-bodied, with no carbonation and a spicy, sweet mouthfeel that finishes metallic. Weird mead, and not really my thing.

On tap at Ei8ht Ball. Not sure exactly which variety this is, listed simply under IQHILIKA - spiced mead. Clear golden yellow color, no head or lace. Bigger body. Very light carbonation. Lightly slick but not too sticky. Surprisingly smooth, not as sweet as expected, finishes a little dry. No bite. I think this is the herbal version, seems like a nice herbal character to it, some spice, some odd copper like metallic... It’s like I have blood in my mouth in the aftertaste. Nice honey, apple, herbal and spice notes. Interesting, tasty stuff.

Bottle. Sweet spiced balsamic vinegar, star anise, and spiced apple aroma. Clear chestnut. Spiced apple and honey flavor. Medium body, slightly dry finish.
