The Hoogstraten Poorter is a dark and strong local beer of high fermentation and has a lovely sweet sense with a subtle aroma of roasted malt. With its bittersweet, full-bodied taste and velvety finish, the Hoogstraten Poorter is a unique beer in its range. This porter is being brewed in honour of the 800th birthday of the city of Hoogstraten.

Bottle. Large ceramic bottle with a strange false swing top. Pleasant malty aroma and dark brown appearance. Pleasant malty aroma and straightforward flavour.Lacks complexity but still above average.

From old tasting notes. Orange brown color. Short-lived beige head. Earthy malt aroma is nutty and chocolatey. Soft sweetish malt flavor with hints of fruit and nuts. Nice soft, dryish hop finish. Smooth and drinkable with a creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle @ DØE Køge. Appearance: clear slightly hazy amber-brown with good off-white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: brown sugar, chocolate, caramel and some spicy notes. palette: medium roasted malty and yeasty aroma, medium to sparkling carbonation, medium body, medium sweetness, somewhat balanced by a light to average bitterness, medium duration and a watery texture. Overall: decent dark belgian

Porter de 6,5 % abv, en bouteille en terre comme les vieux genièvres (mais on est loin de ce niveau-là !!!!), brassé en accord avec la loi de pureté allemande !!!!!! On n’avait rien demandé, nous !!
Mon exemplaire de 75 cl était valable jusqu’en janvier 17.
Couleur noir intense, à l’opacité forte.
Mousse brun clair, à flocons moyens, stable à 4 mm.
Arômes de malt torréfié légèrement, candi, pointe de seigle.
1ère bouche souple à l’entame maltée grillée, mais rétro-nez métallique.
Arrière-bouche assez fausse, plutôt courte.
2ème sans vrai engagement.
Arrière-bouche faible, courte.
3ème avec de la mie de pain, mais pas d’harmonie.
Arrière-bouche qui s’éteint vite.
Longueur avec parfois une odeur de terre … Serait-ce le flacon ??? Je plaisante...
Jambes à flocons moyens, assez longues, un peu collantes.
Levure correcte, mais simple.
Alcool banal, sans effet sur les saveurs.
Finale on ne peut plus ordinaire.
CONCLUSION : pauvre porter, qui aurait peut-être mieux fait d’éviter la loi de pureté allemande …
Qui peut savoir ? Moi, je sais que je n’en reboirai pas ...

Bottle to pint glass. Sweet metallic aroma. Brown/garnet with chunky oatmeal head. Weird medicinal flavor.

Out of the fidge, circa 37º, this is somewhat unpleasant, estery Belgian yeast/banana and papaya notes duking it out with sweet chocolate, burnt grain notes. I thought of chucking the stuff out and grabbing a more traditional porter. Gradually I stopped thinking of this as porter/baltic porter and focused on it as well, simply another idiosyncratric Belgian offering and the beer seemed more and more interesting/enjoyable. Eventually it dawned on me that, like the Strauss Tower 20 IPA I had last year, this needed to get up to 40-45º for the malt flavors to kick in. At this point, I started picking up on the beer’s creamy texture and mouth-coating lusciousness, spice notes and hints of orange zest on the finish. Whew, am I glad I waited on this one (I still have another bottle!). For me at least, the temperature makes all the difference in the world.

Przywitał nas lekki gushing.
Piana bardzo obfita, szybko się dziurawi, troszkę krazkuje na szklei pozostawia cieńką warstewkę na powierzchni.
Barwa no prawie jak cocacola, olapizująca, z rubinowo brązowawymi prześwitami, ale bez bąbelków.

Aromat wodnisty, palony, ciemne owoce, ogólnie słodycz. Bez rewelki.

W smaku jest mocno palone, przez chwil bo potem czuć wodnistość, owocowe, trochę jakby karmelu i brązowego cukru.

Wysycenie w stronę wysokiego, wodniste, goryczka jest ale jakaś taka z niesamowicie słodkawym posmakiem.

Dark brown with nice light tanned head. Nose is light roasted malts, sweetness. Taste is malty, light roasted, sweetness.

25.4 oz bottle 9/12/15 (Courtesy of TerryR)-B-day brew.36° in Tulip-Pours a coca cola brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, fruit, chocolate, and sweetness. Taste of malt, sweetness, and caramel. This light to medium bodied brew is well balanced but a bit weak.

Ceramic bottle from old notes. Pours brown in color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor had roasted malts, a strong fruity character that showed some tartness and acidity, caramel, brown sugar, some earthy notes, interesting mix, but not my thing.
