Cask pours copper, thin lace head. Aroma hoppy fruits. Tastes like a classic bitter with shaper spicy flavours predominating. Watery feel. Resinous palate. Reminiscent of some of the older ales of my youth the Thwaites, Boddingtons and and Tetleys that corporate beer lords used and abused before real ale was reborn. Not sure it will fit now but fine enough. ThirstyBird (2967) - Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - OCT 27, 2015
On cask at The Crown in Berko, pours an orange/red with a slight haze. The smell is grainy and fruity. The taste is toasted malt, fruit ending dry. The body is light with mild carbonation. A well made, pleasant beer. Hippoman (646) - Durham, ENGLAND - OCT 23, 2015
Cask at the Water House (JDW), Durham. £1.89/pint.
Copper beer with a smooth, creamy head. The nose is complex and pleasant, reminiscent of a forest after rain with plenty of earthy notes as well as basement aromas and light leather. Sweet caramel maltiness dominates the flavour with a slight bitter taste to the finish and maybe slight berry notes. The mouthfeel is pleasantly smooth and it’s a perfectly suppable beer but I expected more from the nose.
