2016 catch up - A good strong bitter. Very nice and actually quite refreshing. A good bitterness of hops and a nice strength from the alcohol.

500ml bottle from M&S, the Gyle. Pours clear yellow gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light citrus, pale malt, faint spice. Taste is more citrus and light sweet malt. Gets a bit buttery down the glass.

In bottle, pours with nice head . I really like this old school english bitter. The hops are goldings which might explain. It’s a pity there is not more use of good standard english hops rather over hopped C or new world hops.

From a 500ml bottle. Pours a light and flat amber. Thin head. Malt and subtle citris honey aroma. Sweet light caramel malt flavour. Thin body but very pleasant. Sweet sour salt pepper smokey theme. Nice hops bitterness throughout. A nice easy and subtle English style pale malt ale.

Bottle from Beers of Europe [181216]
Amber, big off white head, clear
Aroma of soft caramel, soft spicy English hops, touch of zest
Taste as aroma, soft bitter spicy hops, hint of toasted malts, easy going, quite malty
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, fairly bitter spicy. Refreshing palate. Cleans off palate, fairly bitter linger.
Overall - Nice, easy going beer, clean

From a bottle. A decent beer, some fruit in the aroma and mellow smooth finish.

TedE (1431) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUN 29, 2016
500ml bottle into pint glass. Smells of earth, peppery hops, a little malt. Cloudy orange beer with solid white head. Laces well. Some tiny bubbles rise. Full bodied and flat, immediate taste is sweet malt but soon followed by bitter fruity hops. The finish is long, dry, bitter with a slight balancing malt sweetness underneath. Flavours develop a little as it warms. Good, tasty bitter.

Cimbasso (977) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2016
Sampled from a bottle. Very clear amber colour with a white head. Sweet, honeyed malts and fruity, grassy hops. Not much complexity, but an excellent well-balanced ESB.

Cask.
