Previously Best Bitter, name changed in to Hooky Bitter in April 2005. "Bitter" subsequently dropped from the name. ABV reduced from 3.6% to 3.5% in 2012.
A subtly balanced, golden bitter, hoppy to the nose, malty on the palate - the classic session beer, eminently drinkable.

Aus der Flasche getrunken (Händlerlieferung). Schönes Amber mit feiner Schaumkrone. Für ein Schankbier ziemlich bitter, leichte Fruchtnoten fehlen mir.

Bottle. Deep golden color, white head. Metallic aroma. Fairly clean, malty flavor with some floral hops and a bready finish. Medium-light body, medium-light carbonation. Not bad for the ABV.

Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from Ocado. Pours clear gold with a creamy, white head. The nose has sun-kissed pale bread, a little dough, faint lemon. Light sweet flavour with notes of pale grains, straw, citrus peel. Light bodied with average carbonation. OK balance to finish, some cereal, biscuits, dried dough, hay, mild bitterness. Very basic but it drinks fine.

Maker: Hook Norton Brewery, Hook Norton, United Kingdom *** Beer: Hooky (bottled, unfiltered, 500ml) *** Style: Bitter *** ALC.VOL.: 3.5% *** "A subtly balanced, golden bitter, hoppy to the nose, malty on the palate - the classic session beer, eminently drinkable." [brewery note] *** Colour: Bright hazy amber; medium,m creamy head. *** Nose: Bready malts, dried figs. Yeast. *** Texture: Medium body, not too watery. Moderate carbonation. *** Taste: Floral notes and dried figs at the start, with yeasty notes present, too. Butterscotch. Mildly sweetish. More floral towards the middle, with increasing bitterness. Some fruit retained in the finale, along with hoppy bitterness and sweet malts for balance. Medium long aftertaste of malts and hops. *** Impressions: Surprisingly characterful for such a low ABV ale. Refreshing, quaffable. Superior British "standard" bitter.
