Twelve Days is a dark brown strong beer brewed for Christmas. A finely balanced ale, lightly hopped with a strong malt and nutty flavor. The strength gives the beer a smooth lingering aftertaste. A definite ale to savour.

THOUGHTS: A nice Christmas gift. It was like some sort of Christmas dessert. The carbonation was a bit overpowering. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark red, that looked brown in the glass with red highlights and a small, white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was nice but weak. There was light to moderate toasted, nutty, caramel and milk chocolate malts; light hops; raisin, plum and toffee. The initial flavor was sweet and acidic; while the finish was rather sweet, lightly bitter and acidic with and average to long duration. There was caramel and nutty malts, toffee, hints of cocoa, raisins, some dark cherries, plum a little apple, toast, cookies, molasses and a little earthy and herbal hops. The notch above medium body was somewhat syrupy and then dry with highly fizzy carbonation and a dry, slightly metallic and lightly astringent finish.

500ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Deep brown pour with a stable tan head that laces well. Nose of caramel, burnt brown sugar, dried dark fruits and a hint of nuttiness. Lovely smooth malty mouthfeel and taste without being too sweet. Low hop bitterness at the finish. A nice dark ale that knocks spots off Tooheys Old.

Joakgust (1460) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 28, 2008
A dark deep red beer with a good brown head. Aroma is rather sweet with hints of fresh fruits and malts. Flavor is roasty malty with notes of coffee, nuts with a nice dark bitter chocolaty finished. Stands out from most X-mas ales in a pleasant way.

A dark red beer with a thin, foamy head. The aroma is slight and sweet and the flavour is heavy malt and fruit but with a nice sharp, bitter aftertaste which balances it out very well. A very nice seasonal beer.

Clear reddish dark brown with nice tan head that doesn’t last. Subtle, pleasant malty aroma. Lovely palate, plenty of body, almost oily thick with a nice tingle of carbonation. Taste is rich and complex with malty sweetness and chocolates dark roast malts. Overall a great string dark beer.

Dark brown with a smaller head, not very viscous, seems thin... Aroma is sweet stick with big notes of dark fruits... Very malty flavor, nutty, dark fruits, mild chocolate notes... Lots of flavor for 5.5%, not as sweet as it smells.. Very good, Flavourful, as it would be spelled some would say more correctly...

Bottle, Big Bang, Oxford. Dark caramel, small layer of tan. Plumy fruit aroma, dry toast, chocolate. Soft, very pleasant. Dry caramel flavor, soft roast, a touch of coffee and chocolate. Substantial body, dry, gentle finish. A really decent porter. (Yes, it’s a porter.) Wish I could find it from the cask.
