toffee/fruity aroma, pours with a dark hue and a large frothy head, quite a few floaters, rich coffee and liquorice flavour, firm bodied with a lingering malt finish, luxurious. davidm (2080) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - AUG 12, 2011
Bottle 500ml. Great stout. Aromas of roasted caramel, milky chocolate, and coffee. Taste is sweet, with balancing bitterness. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy white head. noelcb (271) - Toledo, Ohio, USA - MAY 11, 2006
Very dark, near midnight black. Nice sudsy beige head, some lace. Aromas of dark roasted malt, peat, earth, chocolate, espresso, and mushrooms. Flavor was mostly malt, deeply roasted and smoky, some hop herbalness, cocoa, coffee, and hop bitterness. Mouthfeel was fine for a stout. Good English stout. nearbeer (5421) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 13, 2007
500 ml. Opaque brown-black with a large creamy head that endures, leaving a nice crusty glass. Aroma is chocolate, caramel apple, and coffee with cream. Flavors of cocoa, char, coffee with sourish cream, musty leather, and prickly, acidic green herbs. Palate is medium-bodied, watery, smooth and tingly dry on the finish, almost astringent. Awesome, complex, and underrated stout. ladnewton (1964) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 27, 2009
Permanent cask at the Sultan, London SW19, UK on 24th June 2009. Virtually black stout with a small creamy light brown head and an enticing appearance. Coffee aroma with some hints of mace and nutmeg. A full, slightly grainy, possibly saline mouthfeel and very satisfying roasted malt and barley notes, transporting into a long, dryish finish. Delicious.
