Sun Dog: Pours a hazy orange. Aroma was fresh with shades of citrus. Taste also had citrus elements, but a slightly bitter aftertaste kept this from being a higher rating. With that being said, I found this to be quite tasty and very drinkable. They say Sun Dog is an alias of Hop Hound, but I had 4 star rating differences between the 2.... 12oz bottle from Shaw’s, born on March 7, 2008. Pours a hazy golden amber body with a good half inch or so of off-white head that slowly dissipates leaving some lacing. Smells fruity, with hints of lemon and banana and just a hint of honey. Tastes like banana, nut, lemon, hints of pepper and spice toward the finish. Light to medium in body with ample carbonation to boot. Much more flavorful and full than I was expecting. Spot-on for the style. I actually don’t mind it, and could see myself picking it up again for a refreshing lawn-mower beer. Nothing wrong with this one - AB’s strongest showing to date! Kinda wonder why this beer hasn’t gotten better ratings. So what -- a macro brewer can make a good beer. Seems like we ought to celebrate instead of pout.
Anyway, the head is perhaps a bit more than I like, but it has a significant one. It’s light-bodied, but it’s a spring beer! The flavor is not full of cilantro or other non-beer spices, just the grains and hops.
I found it pretty refreshing on a hot, almost-summer, Mid-South afternoon. In fact, I went out and bought a couple of more 6-packs, since they stopped brewing it for the year last month.

Pours a slightly dark, unfiltered brown with a thin, cream coloured head. It has a mildly hoppy aroma, although not too strong. The aroma is also rather sweet, although not noxiously so. The flavour is slightly bitter from the hops, but I wouldn’t describe it as very bitter. It also has a slightly sweet and herby/citrus taste. It has a medium to slightly thick mouthfeel with a high amount of effervescence. Overall, a pretty good beer. jebert (500) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 28, 2010
Pours a rusty amber with a smallish white head. Nose is mostly hops with a sniff of carmel malt. Nice viscosity. Taste is more malt than hops with a pleasing light dry soft note on the finish. A good beer, especially for a major brewer. Pairs well with Rondele soft cheese on Ritz crackers.

Draft at Major’s, Golden Valley, CA. Hey, with only 9 ratings I get to make it or break it! This brew was a pleasant surprise and I see getting a solid dose of anti-macro bias by my fellow Ratebeerians. Not much aroma but wonderful lacing and pretty good flavor. Doughy with a subtle hop finish. Reminds me a bit of both Rogue Dead Guy and Goose Island Honkers. Session Ale qualities. I still prefer Sam Adams to it and ordered a couple of those after having this one, but you could definitely do worse. Bradrcr (806) - Renton, Washington, USA - APR 27, 2008
3/14/08 draught at the McChord brewfest. Aroma is lt sour bready wheat malt and fairly fruity. Appearance is hazy gold with a moderate maintained white head . Flavor is fruity, not so sweet as the aroma, and slightly sour. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with a low carb texture and kind of creamy. Overall, easy drinking with low character overall, but well balanced. bearlybrewed (41) - Colorado, USA - MAR 13, 2009
clear amber with off-white head. Aroma is wheat and mild hop. The taste is wheat with a hop finish. I am not a wheat beer drinker, however this one set fairly well with me. Jabswitch (278) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - APR 29, 2008
I really liked this one. I think if people didn’t know it was an Anheuser Busch product they would have rated it higher. (prejudice against macros - I am guilty myself). Not weak like some wheat beers - nice substance in flavor and very appealing in appearance. Slipstream (2625) - USA - JUN 9, 2008
Like Stone Mill, this is a bogus micro from Anheuser Busch - and like Stone Mill, it is pretty darn good. Light amber pour, with a blossoming, fizzing canopy. Rich, hoppy aroma with a hint of industrial, vegetal skank. Funny drawing of a cool-dude dog on the label. The taste is rich and malty for a wheat, with some sweetness and piney hops. Full flavored, with some similarity to a bock. Not bad at all.
