Draft sample at MBGF Summer 2009.
I sampled at HopCat when it was still in the tank.
Poured a cloudy copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sage and small sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spicy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
Another good beer for this house. Drake (13635) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 26, 2010
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy light amber color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of sage and citrus. The taste is big sage notes, earthy hops and a faint citrus finish. Medium bodied. Interesting. Nice. Good think I like sage. deyholla (11479) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 28, 2009
On tap at MBG Summer Festival. Poured a hazy amber gold with white head. Aroma consisted of pine and sage notes. The flavor started piney with sage but became more of a citrus and sage combination. It was an interesting and fun beer. hopscotch (11042) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 16, 2010
Draft… RBSG 2010… Clear amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Plenty of sage, toffee and honey in the nose. Medium to full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. Lots of sage in the flavor, but it’s not overbearing. Finishes, malty, spicy and fairly clean. j12601 (10868) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - AUG 10, 2010
On tap at HopCat while in town for RBSG. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Soft sage and lavender. Medium bodied, more sage. Rather herbal, the sage really comes through on this. Nice and crisp. The sage may be a bit heavy, but it’s quite nice.

Tap at HopCat during the RBSG welcome party. Pale golden pour. The nose is really fresh and herbal. Bright fresh sage arom a over some pale toasted malt. A little bit of soft fruity character. An almost rosemary-like herbaceousness. The beer is lightly sweet and as it warms up a kiss of fruitiness comes out. Pretty decent, unique stuff. On tap at Hopcat. Poured lighter amber with a creamy cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sweeter sage all over with a pale and biscuity base.. very interesting. The flavor found sage on all facets as well, supported by a bed of biscuits and caramel.. slightly sour sage and oak-like notes on the back-end and finish.. really dried out as it progressed.. aftertaste of dried sage. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. flowed well.. nice use of the herb! BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - AUG 3, 2009
MiBG Summer Fest 2009, Saturday session: Clean golden hue with an okay head. The aroma is SAGE baby!!! You can detect some honey bread and caramel vapours too. Slightly displays an apricot esters at times. The taste indeed has a sharp sage character yet not too heavy to drown out the sweeter malts and the light citric tones. Actually once you get past the initial "shock" of the spice, the beer becomes quite drinkable (unlike say, Fantome Strange Ghost or that shall not be named abomination of a Pizza "Beer"). The mouth feel is sharp, lively and refreshing. It is different but still enjoyable. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JUN 30, 2014
From March of 2011, reviewed from notes and at the brewpub.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some light lacing sticking around the sides of the glass.
The smell had a decent sweet honey to it and some light piney hops.
The taste was mainly the same with a light grassiness that was probably the sage.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style as it had a good sharpness but wasn’t anything overly done.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good APA well worthy of having again. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JUL 26, 2009
On tap @ HopCat in Grand Rapids- shared by Brett in his generosity. Pours hazy caramel brown/ yellow with a white head. Nose is lt. malt, some bitterness, spice, and sage almost to the point of band-aid. Flavor is sage-forward; sage, malt, and some nice balanced malt and sweetness to the sage. Enjoyable beer when the occasion calls for it.
