From a 330ml bottle on 20/2/2015. Pours almost black with a huge light tan head. Has a quite strong aroma of roasted malt, fruity hops and a good dash of yeast. The flavour is really intense - extremely roasty, with chocolate, even a touch of coffee, along with lots of sweet stone fruit. In the end, the bitterness prevails - lingering, almost a little salty - but it’s still quite well balanced. Full bodied and a touch over carbed. Overall, a touch rough but still has a fair bit of charm. Give it a try if you’re keen on beers which are pretty full on. Shark_Pants (781) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 6, 2015
Pours a dark as sin black with only a few ruby hints when held up to the light. The head on mine was a very small tan one; however, my tasting buddy rock_buffalo’s was much more carbonated with the head hardly receding after 10 min. A fairly muted aroma with some chocolate, grapefruit and maybe just a hint of coffee. The taste is initially quite sweet, with loads of dark chocolate, a little treacle and hint of coffee, then a grapefruit bitterness rolls in along with a very light astringency, with some leather drying out the finish. The Children of Darkness India Black Ale has a tendency to surprise through contradiction. When the bottle is opened and you pour a nectar so dark that you feel you're staring into the abyss, you expect to be hit by a corresponding heady aroma, but instead the scent that wafts forth is subtle and tantalising, with a fortified edge that can easily be missed under sweeter notes that permeate early. The head on pouring is volatile, flaring up early before dying rapidly to a thin foamy icing that's glaringly white in contrast to the black ale below. On first taste you a struck a hefty blow with delicious chocolate and coffee, but this quickly transitions into a sweeter citrus edge as the brew lingers on your taste buds as the surprisingly light and refreshing Black Ale is rapidly consumed. An amazing drop that's well worth the search, especially for the chance to sit and mull over its complexities.

Nice looking black IPA, smooth mouthfeel. Very big flavours for its ABV, some what of a texture and flavour I can't pick, peat / belgian yeast?

Draught. Not a huge nose, but some burnt spicy malt, resiny hops present.
Pitch black body with a rough tan head.
Palate lighter than it looks, and a little heavy on the bubbles, but smooth and moreish. Somehow sweet and fruity to begin, moves into big juicy flavours of currants, liquorice, vanilla, espresso, and dark chocolate. Delicious hoppy bitterness to finish. Very nice indeed.

Cap came off and beer ensued; could not get it into the glass quick enough as it literally exploded all over the kitchen bench. The author of seduction it finally settles in the glass. Three inches of rocky brown plume atop an inky black body. Strong note of eucalypt and hibiscus with notes of cola, roasted coffee bean and carob, charred pine-wood and camphor. Chalky, dry palate. Heftily smoky, bonfire ash finish. Hops are prevalent but the bitterness is well restrained (maybe it’s showing its age prematurely). Soft mouthfeel, soft presence with good length. Malt forward but with a lot of piney, woody, nutty hop and yeast nuances. An enjoyable brew without being in your face. Nice!! Black pour with a tan coloured frothy head. The aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and citrus fruit a little disappointedly muted. The flavours step up though with coffee, chocolate and vanilla creating a sweetish front to mid palate, dry roasted malts and a good whack of tropical fruit and pine hops to add great bitterness to the end. Very well balanced. A fine example of one of my favourite types of beer.
