Bottle (500ml) at Volo, shared with Blankboy & GregClow. Appearance: Ruby red/brown with a small brown head. Aroma: Alcohol with a slight sour lemon notes, somewhat nutty. As it warms it becomes peaty and smoky. Flavour: Slight sour, malt, peat and chocolate. Very nice. Another great Hopfenstark number! Fred82 (2331) - Québec City, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 17, 2009
Glass, on tap at Host and Vice-Versa. Poured pitch black with a medium creamy brown head. Awesome look. Good head retention, leaves great lacing. Aroma is chocolate, strong roasted malt and caramel. Taste is roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Finish is quite roasted. Mouthfeel is creamy. medium carbonation. It is my best porter so far. Strong fruity and chocolate aroma. Opaque black body is topped by a very weak and large bubbled head. Plenty of roasted malts with a sour cherry undertone that works with the bittersweet chocolate character. Medium full body with very low carbonation. I don’t think this bottle is at it’s best... Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the brewery in July 2008. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2009
Dark brown in colour with a thin beige coloured head, no lacing. The aroma was sweet with some light chocolate, very faint hops, some burnt malts. The flavour is sweet and incredibly smooth, some coffee, roasted malts, very light alcohol. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium/light carbonation. Finishes long, dry with some hops.blankboy (7788) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2009
A good porter, very light alcohol in the flavour but it never becomes a distraction, good balance.
Bottle at Mondial 2008, Montreal, Quebec.
Sampled on May 30, 2008.
Bottle (500ml) at Volo, shared with garthicus & GregClow. Pours a very dark orange-brown with an average size semi-lasting foamy tan head. Slightly subtle aroma of roasted malt, a hint of sourness (or metal), some coffee and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malt with notes of chocolate, dark fruit and the aforementioned metal/sourness. Dry, roasty finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, not great.

Noire, avec reflets roux lorsqu a la lumiere. Collet qui disparait vite, manque de corps. On discerne facilement l alcool. Gout aciduler peu interessant.
Black with auburn highlights. Thin head that fades away fast. Alcohol taste is detectable. Unpleasant acidic taste.

Bottle at Volo courtesty Hogtown and tupalev. Near black with a thin head. Fairly chocolatey, with some cocoa and gutted nuts. Tart body with some chocolate, some nuts and cherry. Too much tartness keeps this beer from doing much of anything to interest me, sa the other flavours all become obfuscated. Beershine (5224) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 18, 2008
Bottle at Volo. Opaque black with nice head. Some cherry pit and clean metals in the complex nose. Soft, low carbonation. Smooth. Licorice, soya, resin, balsamic, sour cherry. Gorgeous! MJGG (952) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 9, 2008
[1442-20080531] Bottle. Boozy roast malt aroma has lots of wood. Dark brown red body with a quick foamy light tan head. Flavour has a little watery banana. Medium body. Interesting.
