VTHopHead (1511) - Seymour, Tennessee, USA - AUG 3, 2008
Sample at the 2008 VT Brewers Fest - Poured a very dark brown/black in color with a small tan head. Small lacing on the glass. Aroma was heavy with roasted malts and dark fruit. Flavor was roasty with lots of fruitiness. Slightly sour and astringent at the end. Good beer, not a great one...

App.: Pitch black with reddish hues, light brown head with sticky lacing

Aromas: Light molasses, tootsie rolls, blackberries, cassis, blueberries, white chocolate

Palate: Acid, long lasting bitterness with a lightly sweet finish, slight lack of body

Flavors: blackberries, preaty much the same as the aromas

Notes: Very evolutive, subtile hints of a flemish sour.

2008-05-31. Black body with a nice foamy khaki head. Aroma is surprisingly subtle, mild roast malt, dark malt with tiny touch of acidity, with both the roast and acidity growing as it warms. Flavour has a similarly acidic tang, modest roast over dark malt throughout. (7+) Average to medium bodied palate. Pretty decent but doesn’t quite make it to the next level. Bottle, Mondial, Montreal, 5T

Nowhere as good as the oak-aged, still a decent baltic porter. This has maple syrup, I guess to sweeten the normal style’s sourness. Medium mouthfeel, white bubbly head on black body.

On tap @ Vices et Versa, Montreal. Pors a nice deep dark brown. Bitter & slight sourness & tartness. Medium mouthfeel, light chocolate flavor. Prefer both the victory & smuttynose

On tap at Oktoberfest in Mascouche. The color is a very dark brown with a thick beige head. The taste and aroma is of malt and fruits. There is also a fineshing taste of sweet toffee that leaves a nice aftertaste.

In short: A very good smooth and round porter.
How: Tap at brewery. I think this batch is a few months old.
The look: Black body, medium tan head
In long: A touch of smoke on the nose. Taste has black liquorice, thick toffee, chocolate cake and some tropical fruits. Overall rather sweet. This one focuses on smoothness and roundness and not on roastiness and dryness. Some leafy green-ish hops provide a shy bitterness. There was a little rubber/band-aid flavour but it was very light. Full yet lean body with lots of small bubbles. Enjoyable sticky/syrupy mouthfeel. Nothing really stands out but this beer has many qualities. And if there is one thing I like about a beer it is that there is more than one thing to like about a beer.

Several months old version. Quite the black pour wearing a lasting light tan head. Not quite as fruity as I expected. This is a soft, round and sweetish, chocolatey offering. Fudge and nuts own most of the palate, but a grapey and plumy understated layer can be found underneath. Soft carbonation, medium, comfortable body. Moderate hops are still doing the job, bringing a healthy bitterness with leafy, earthy notes. Clean, well-balanced and most pleasant offering.
