puzzl (3260) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 1, 2009
Tap at Spuyten Duyvil. Aroma of palm oil, roast, with a slick, greasy, thick and steaky body to it. Light bitter in the mouth with good complexity, with lots of roasty coffee in there. Notes of root vegetables are present. Balanced and clean, kind of bourbony despite its lack of barrel aging. Chalky and creamy and easy drinking. I’m looking forward to trying the BBA’d version of this Fred provided.

Lukaduke (3206) - Gray, Maine, USA - JUN 2, 2013
Draft at Pro Pig. Pours a deep brown umber color with a finger of khaki foam. Lots of roasty malts and burnt chocolate. Sweet molasses, caramel, fig and a pretty thin body. Decent but nothing to special.

Quevillon (3165) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 20, 2007

Tap Mondial. Deep rich smell of roast coffee, dark brown, ruby at the sides, small cappuccino head. Fine coffee flavour, dark chocolate, treacle, brazil nuts, liquorice. Full bodied, complex, very well balanced, bitter and bold. Great!

The apearance is dark brown, red tinge, sligtht translucence. The aroma is sweet, brown sugar, chocolate. The flavor is the same as the aroma, but more roasty. Medium in body. Pine hop bitterness on the finish, some residual sweetness as well. Medium in body. Decent.

PilsnerPeter (3050) - Flushing, New York, USA - MAY 27, 2009
Tap at Spuyten Duyvil: Very deep brown pour with a khaki ring of head. Rich yet soft aroma- some licorice notes and light vanilla under a predominantly chocolaty malt nose. Creamy body (all of his beers have a nice palate) Rich flavor but smooth- fudgey, only mildly roasted with a soft fruitiness from the yeast that meshes with the nice chocolty malt presence- light vanilla as well. A rich yet cohesive & easy drinker.

On tap, Mondiale 09. Very dark brown, creamy dark head. Oily roast aroma. Great taste - soft mouthfeel, slightly syrupy, Acidic and smooth. Very easy to drink for this style. Excellent.

Bottle (500ml) at Volo, shared with Blankboy & GregClow. Appearance: Ruby red/brown with a small brown head. Aroma: Alcohol with a slight sour lemon notes, somewhat nutty. As it warms it becomes peaty and smoky. Flavour: Slight sour, malt, peat and chocolate. Very nice. Another great Hopfenstark number!

Pours cola with a slight ruby tinge with no head or lacing. Nose is figs and brown sugar, almost like a date square. Notes of molasses, espresso, roasted cereal. Taste is medium sweet low bitterness. Light body with low carbonation. Alcohol well hidden.
