In short: A doughy/yeasty and fruity IPA. Good beer
How: Tap at Chambly Beer Festival 2011
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a small off-white head
In long: The nose is mostly fruity and appear to be a mix of fruity yeast esters and fruity hops. I noted peaches, oranges, apricots, more… Taste proposes a nourishing doughy body, chewy cake malts, a lot of fruits (again oranges, peaches, apricots and more). The beer ends with a resinous bitterness of medium intensity. The medium carbonation suits the beer well. Another good beer from Hopfenstark that I will drink again and again, I have never learned moderation, instead I have developed an expertise in doing things when hangover.

On tap at the brewery, in cask, cloudy amber color, with a small bubbly beige head, yeasty, floral leafy, soapy hop nose with some mild cedary, citrus lemon peel notes, and light grainy maltiness, within a faint fruity belgian yeastiness aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice yeasty, smooth toasted, caramel malt, juicy flowery leafy, grassy hop character with some cedary, light leafy mintiness, faint lime, lemon rind flavors, leading towards a lingering juicy leafy, cedary hop bitterness finish.

My Bottom Line :
Doughy yeast and grapefruit character get quickly overtaken by resinous bitterness in this rough IPA with Belgian-style yeast.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam tops the murky beige.
-While this is very flavorful, it could use some refinement in its flavor alignment.
-The aftertaste is where most flavors meet and get along.
-Carbonation was quite low in my latest glass. Made the flavor profile feel incoherent at times.
-Yeast was perhaps too prominent as well. Bottom of a keg?
-My first glass of this at the Chambly festival was more cohesive and better carbonated. Rating above is an average of both experiences.

On tap at the brewery and at the Chambly festival.

(Rating #4024)

Sample at Chambly fest. Tap version.
Appearance : Hazy amber.

Taste : Herbal with lots of belgian yeast. Nice hops too. Light overcooked caramel with light bitterness.
Overall : Nice one. Quite drinkable. Could be a bit more hoppy. Nice yeast. Nice finish.

A murky hazed amber IPA with a thin off white head. In aroma, superb and perfumey, creamy and complex, fruity white grape, very nice. In mouth, a smooth floral hops, green hops, fruity and Belgian, very nice. Cask at Bieres et Saveurs, Sept. 2 2011.

on tap at brewpub. light copper-orangey, frothy off-white head, good retention and lacing. strawberry nose, light spices, tons of fruitiness. taste is strawberry-medium hopping, belgiumness, acidity, alcohol. soft, yet lively, medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, long grapefruit finish. very nice.
