Draft: Poured a light beige color ale with red haze and a nice foamy head with good retention. Aroma of fresh raspberries with light tart notes. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some fresh raspberries with light tart notes and a medium bland malt backbone, which is not a bad thing considering the focus is on the fruit. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but not great either or maybe I had higher expectation.

Big cloudy slightly pink amber with giant white head. Aroma of a dry peppery Saison. First taste is sour and tastes like a raspberry Saison. Second sip seems much more subdued. Then the beer settles into a tart light raspberry Saison just milder than that first sparkling taste. A little thin perhaps. Pour the yeast and get a wet dirty raspberry taste.

Draft at monks in Philly. Pours an amber body with creamy off white head. Aroma is light raspberries. Flavor totally takes a right turn down ipa Ave. Surprising flavor of citrus and fruit hop. Seems a bit closer to an Sipio with raspberry flavor rather than a fruit brew. Good beer nonetheless.

Tastes very much like a classic hopfenstark saison with some tart rapsberries added. There is the slight funk and pepperiness of a saison with a lovely tart raspberry. Extremely enjoyable!

On tap at Host. Pours hazy yellow with a medium head. Retention is short. Extensive lacing. Nose is grainy wheat with a bit funk and some raspberries. Taste is grainy with some fruits. Very discrete. Little sourness. A bit dusty. Quite drinkable and very light. Hint of lambic funk on the nose. Very thin and not so good. This beer is very different depending on the raspberries used. The batch at the Mondial used different fruits (as Fred told me) and was way better seeing the ratings it had.

750 ml bottle via JulienHuxley, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Massive gusher – lost over half the bottle and sprayed beer EVERYWHERE!.

App.: Very cloudy pinkish-golden with a huge fluffy white head. Aroma: Sour. Infected. Sort of wild and Saison-ish, Some raspberry notes, quite tart and old, raspberry greens, some yeast and bread dough, lighter biscuit. Palate: Medium body and full, soft effervescence. Flav.: Plenty of funk, some raspberry fruit and leaves, yeast/bread dough, bits of biscuity malt; quite tangy and unpleasantly bitter with a funky finish.

Broken. An unexpected failure from an otherwise solid producer.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2009 Bottle. Gushed. Old raspberry nose with some acidity coming through. This one has got to be infected because this is a good brewery but this bottle is awful. Drainpour...

Draught. At Mondial 2009 - day 1. Cloudy peach colour with an average white head. sour fruity/funky aroma, plenty of yeast and raspberry seed bitterness. The taste - essentially no alcohol, just lovely raspberry seeds, lemon juice, spicy yeast - very smooth, not remotely harsh, a terrific beer. Light-ish body, very acidic, with a quick, dry tart finish - makes you want more immediately! Fricking awesome - Hopfenstark knows sours ... oh yeah!

Draught at ’Mondial de la Biere 2009’, Montréal, QC. Pours a cloudy peach colour with a small diminishing white head. Nice aroma of tart raspberries, Belgian yeast and a mild sourness. Delicious flavour: Tart and lightly sour raspberries. More fruit shows up, nice tart finish. So refreshing! Good body. I friggin’ loved it -- Hopfenstark does it again!

I agree with tupalev, one of my favourites of the festival too. Appearance: Orange, almost pink, hazy with a tiny white head. Aroma: "Smells like a Hopfenstark" lovely champagne yeast, pineapple, apple and some tartness. Flavour: Peaches, apples, bitter, initially sour but then suddenly sweet, a lovely raspberry finish - awesome.
