Drank on tap (12 oz) at Le St. Bock in Montreal, on October 30, 2010. Burnt brown, thin beige head. Barley malt aroma with notes of sweet chocolate, a bit hoppy. Taste of malted barley, a good combination of cocoa and bitter hops, very warm in the mouth. Finaly an harvest ale that I realy like, with some black IPA and some stout!

2010-10-29. Very dark brown-black body with a tiny head. 3+ Perplexing aroma, modest leafy hops, hinds of some kind of spic, kind of anise like? 7+ Flavour is similar, modest green character, sweeter dark malt in the middle leads up to bitter hops in the finish. 7+ Smooth average plus palate is a touch too lightly carbonated for my preference. Pretty solid. Enjoyable. Cask at Volo, Toronto

Aroma mild light roast character paired with leafy hops. Good play of aromas here. Clean and straight.7+
Appearance dark brown with off tanned top.
Flavor and Palate : Medium full bodied. Gentle hint of licorice followed by good well developed dark malts. Very easy going with clean hop profile. Slight hint of mint. Very tasty ale.
My Bottom Line:tastybeer (1853) - Indiana, USA - MAR 8, 2011
Raisins, roasted malts and levelled green hops coalesce in this full-bodied, Harvest Ale / Foreign Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A layer of creamy foam protects the brown-edged blackness.
-The cask version had brash hoppiness compared to the slightly older tap. The cask was not cohesive too, even though the flavors were all very pleasant.
-Balance is beautiful in this one, evolving in a wonderfully chewy body.
-Yet another successful new recipe from Hopfenstark. Bravo!
On tap at the brewery, and on cask at Benelux.
Draft. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt. Taste is coffee, chocolate, roasty with a big hop bite. They had it listed as a black IPA but who knows.

On tap. Poured black with a large brown head that lasted throughout the beer and laced nicely. Aroma had a strong roasted malt note with some coffee and a bit of dark chocolate as well as a dryness. Flavor was similar with strong roasted malts throughout, some coffee, a slight bitter hop note and quite a dry finish. vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - APR 4, 2011
Draft @ ginger man NYC. Dark pour tan head. Chocolate and roasted malt with some light bitterness and licorice tones. Some hints of woody tones. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUN 1, 2011
Black pour with an off-white head. Aroma holds a lot of really nice complex smoke and earth. Flavor holds a lot more smoke, but not a ton of complexity. Still a good drinkable palate and very tasty. UM02 (366) - Quebec, CANADA - OCT 29, 2011
On tap at St-Bock. Deep roasted malt taste with a touch of caramel. A bit smoky and with some hop bitterness. Excellent stout. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 30, 2012
