Comments: A rather chewy example with the rye’s uniform mouthfeel. Interesting beer per se, but it lacks a bit the freshness I appreciate in the style which sounds rather ironic as Hopfenstark’s beers always feel hugely fresh. How I mean it, possibly a paler grain profile, more pointy, sharp hops and less overall thickness would ease the drinkability. To their defense, their blonde already does awesome in that department.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2007 Cloudy glowing orange body topped by a short-lived medium white head. Leafy coriander, herbal spices and lots of freshly squeezed citrus fruits in a yeast dough. Very yeasty beer with a doughy mouthfeel, maybe even a little floury. Feeling of drinking an orange muffin. Finish is orange flavour with some leafy hops. Another good offering from Hopfenstark. I can drink that stuff until the taxi suddenly takes on colorful aspect, makes loud noise and has a spinning light on top of it.

On draft at brewery, a bit of a miss here sort of plastic candy, meh it’s not all that good

On tap at brewpub’s anniversary. Hazy yellow pour, lots of frothy white head. Aroma is quite tart and lemony, a bit of grain and saison yeast. Taste is lemony, some alcohol quite straightforward. Palate is a little slick for the style, I was expecting more from this beer.

Bouteille.

Tap at Bond (1 block from DDC). Pours a slightly hazy deep golden with yeast or hop particles floating around- big lasting white head and solid lace. Aroma is earthy, musty, herbal hops, and good fresh bready malts and some cracker hints. Hoppy flavor with slight woodsy hint, herbal, and good bready light carapils anda drying easy going finish. Very nice easy drinking saison/belgian ale- the typical saison yeast character isnt really found here, but the beer is still real nice.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2016 Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #14. Vermont Brewer’s Fest, July 2008, sample 7 (draught). Much better on a second try, some interesting spiciness in the nose, and caraway rye is in evidence...cherry and sour apple in the body, spicy dark rye breadiness, this is fairly similar to the Bière Sure but with a little more accent on the malt, a little less tartness, a little more dryness. Rating is for this second sample only.

Sampled draught at the Mondial, Montreal (May 2007). Opaque apricot in color, little head, no real lacing....apricots in the nose as well, at first the fruitiness dominates but a bit of earthy funk works its way in eventually....body starts out rather too sweet, dries out a bit midpalate, gets a bit mineralic and salty to finish....somewhat "dirty" or rough on the palate and too sweet and syrupy overall, too much fruit-sugar....drinkable, but a disappointment. 6-3-5-3-11=2.8

Glass at brewery. Thick creamy white head. Big funky scent. Drinkable pepper and light lemon. Aftertaste is almost mushroom and a bit buttery.

75cl bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. 29-12-2016.
"Cata improvisada". Botella de Chela vía Julius.
Bottled: 11/13.
Nice saison, hay, grassy, fruity, hazy, frothy off white head, moderate tart, earhty flavours, fast vanishing, short mouthfeel.

Bottle @ ZZT X, courtesey of Caesar. Pours a clear blonde beer with a big white head on top. Aroma is peppery, very yeasty, light fruity. Flavor is light bitter, quite fruity and has some cheesy notes. Quite yeasty and sweet aftertaste. Quite ok!
