Notes from August 2016. Poured from the bottle, the beer shows a bit of a murky brown to tan color, with a very short-lived ring of foam at the top. The smell is pretty malty, nice enough in itself, but there is a lack of the warm ferment funk or spice you would expect with a farmhouse ale.
What I also get is a light orange peel among the malts in the palate. It comes across more like a Doppelbock than a saison. A bit of Belgian style sugar puts this a little too much toward the sweet side. I would hope that once Finch gets their brewery situation settled, they’ll look at the formulation of this beer, as I would not expects Minhas to be able to handle unusual styles like this very well. A farmhouse or saison needs a little space of its own the cultivate a bit of funk away from the rest of the brewery. BlackBeerPG (844) - Darien, Illinois, USA - OCT 3, 2016
Taste: crisp and then smooth, creamy mouth-feel. Bread and fruit notes. Yeast bread and malty nose. pale gold, semi clear, refined head of delicate lattice of lace. Medium body. Easy to drink. edwardbass (858) - Illinois, USA - JUN 19, 2016
Holy crap, this stuff is terrible. Cloyingly sweet, no "funk" whatsoever and zero hops. Nasty. Mad that I decided to try it. wlajwl (7010) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - JUN 1, 2016
Aroma is spices and Minhas malts. The flavor is spices and Minhas malts/yeast/everything. sigh_borg (97) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 23, 2016
Foam exploded over the top of the bottle when I opened this up. Not a good sign? Once I waited for the gigantic head to subside, appeared hazy orange/brown in the glass. Aroma is funky, yeasty fruit-- I get apple as the dominant note. Also a hint of cleaning solution (?). Taste is sweet. Medium bodied. Booze comes through on the finish. Feels unbalanced. Not as terrible as everyone here seems to think, but I wouldn’t choose it again.

I forgot this brewery contracts at Minhas. Until I tasted it. This is some skanky sweet bullshit. It tastes like a year old 1999 APA, which it is to say it tastes like a slightly bitter admixture of Malta Goya and damp cardboard. As far as I’m concerned, this beer can eat shit. kaser (6366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 23, 2016
Reddish with white head. Draft at cru. Malty and earthy. Doesn't taste how it looks. phaleslu (10553) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 21, 2015
12 oz. bottle from Chris - thanks again, Chris. Minhas! Wow, that makes sense. Pours a clear gold if you can keep the yeast floaters at the bottom from pouring in; I spotted them in the bottle, and left the last ounce or so in there. Small white head that settles into a wispy film and a ring. A metric shit ton of banana in the nose, with caramel and sweet bread, dried fruits like golden raisins and figs, phenols, a lot of sugar, and a bit of a metallic note. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a really sweet and heavy mouthfeel. This one’s a load. 12 oz. is too much. 5.5% but drinks like double that level. tmoreau (4593) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - OCT 22, 2015
12 oz. bottle poured to a shaker at the bar in the Shoreline Restaurant in Gills Rock, WI.. Displayed a hazed, orangey gold hue, with some lingering fluffiness to the off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was lightly dank & earthy, with soft esters. Light+ bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste was honey sweet, with low, earthy bitterness, and noticeable, buttery diacetyl. Didn’t finish. Saison/farmhouse ale? Not enlightened. Oh gracious this is made at Minhas?
Pours golden & perfectly clear with a loose small head that falls fairly quickly.
The aroma is sort of spicy with some lavender and metallic characteristics.... overall it’s really not very aromatic.
The beer is lightly fruity with a mild minerallity. It’s pretty sweet and has a sort of sweet corn thing happening. The beer is spicy a little soapy... sort of tastes like apples. ugh.
The beer sits unnecessarily heavy on the palate but has a carbonation that provides a little liveliness. It leaves a real bad lingering sensation on the finish.
