Debut tapping at The Beer Bistro. How cool is it that we beer geeks often have a new beer with its brewmaster at the same table telling us about it! Ike Orcutt of Hopothesis filled me in while I was scribbling about this new brewer’s flagship. It’s got an amber gold body that shows off its use of Vienna malts, under a firm one-finger head. Ike said it was intended to be more of an English style IPA, with a bigger malt backbone playing equal parts to the hops and I agree. Still, I can’t but notice a definite use of Pacific hops in this glass. Some of that impression comes from this beer being very fresh. But it does have a welcome, malty, hearty mouthfeel for an IPA. Orcutt says their plan is to "gypsy brew" until they can get their own brewing space in the city, probably next year. And just like that, our town has ANOTHER beer-maker! Hazy amber color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of citrus hops, caramel, & some floral; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, hops, and citrus (notably orange); No real bitterness; Overall, kinda of weird - ok. rubbishystuff (2537) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2013
From B and C. Hop heads probably won’t be to big on this as it is a very malty but not very hoppy IPA. The hops were medium bitter but quite spicey herbal piney. As and IPA maybe not so much but overall it wasn’t so bad. Serving: Bottle charule (2302) - New York, New York, USA - AUG 24, 2013
Midwest Brewers Fest. Poured slightly hazy orange with white head. Sweet honey aroma with lil hop. Unpleasant taste. Bitter and incorrect. hombrepalo (1972) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 10, 2013
Had this at Elwoods tap. Pours deep golden, close to amber. little to no head, but a swirl produces a nice, light-tan film of foam. mellow aroma with malty caramel and light pine. taste is a bit more aggressive, with alot more bitterness than was evident from the aroma. medium body and carbonation.

Golden-amber with big, foamy, beige head / Dry, musty nose of barley and citrus / Medium body, very sweet, somewhat malty and syrupy, with lots of bitterness / Sweet flavors of dry hop and muted grapefruit and orange / Needs work. jaymobrown (1845) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 17, 2012
Not too bad, but it could have used a lot more hops. Bread, yeast, malt, with some dark fruit like plum or raisin. Decent finish with a chewy mouth feel. Noticeable alcohol. bleeng (1705) - Houston not near Beersel., Texas, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Draft at Courtyard downtown Chicago. Poured bright gold and clear. Mild piney nose. Taste is dry and with a nice fresh hop profile. Sessionable and enjoyable. DietPepsican (1589) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - MAR 29, 2013
[:39] Fucken a bro this shit is some garbage. Pour an amber red with an off white head. Bitter soap, heavy caramel malt, and loads of unfermented sugars round out this filth. Bitter sweet finish. U jokin? Narnad (1521) - Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA - MAR 4, 2013
Pours a very hazy, deep orange color with a quick falling white head. Aroma has a very strong lemon profile, light bitterness, strong toasted malts at the tail end. Flavor starts off with a strong lemon, mild tropical fruit with a light touch of a grassy, stale bitterness followed by a mild grainy ending. Body is light and very fizzy. Overall all a definite "meh" IPA. Flavors don’t work very well together and lack any smooth transitioning seen in a solid IPA. Definitely not something I will have again, albeit a very neat label as anything with Avogadro’s number is going to pull my eye in instantly.
