Bottle - thanks to I forgot who :(. Pours opaque black, small fizzy black head that dissipates quickly with some lacing. Aroma is roasty malts, whiskey, chocolate. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, light bitter, bitter finish. Just a bit of whiskey and oak, but certainly not pronounced. Medium plus body, kinda creamy in the mouth. Good, not amazing. gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - JAN 11, 2014
750 ml, kindly shared by Dennoman - thank you sir. Aroma of cinnamon, chili, apple pie, oak, little alcohol. Medium body, dry roastiness, slight bitterness at the end. Flavours of roasted coffee, chocolate chips. Nice, but one-sided on the flavours. kraddel (9197) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - JAN 11, 2014

750ml bottle from the tasting room at Hoppin Frog. Thanks Fred for pointing it out on the rare beer menu. I choose the oldest vintage. Pours a black as night, viscous, small headed gem into a small snifter. The nose is chocolate, whiskey, oak, roasted malts, vanilla, and nuts. The taste is similar with oak, whiskey, chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, slight coffee, roasted malts. Very smooth mouth, oily, round finish, chocolate and vanilla finish. Slight booze at the end as well. This is a very well cellared beer. Chuckaduck (674) - Highland Heights, Kentucky, USA - AUG 25, 2013
8/25/13. Draft pint from PARTY TOWN. Pours opaque, deep brown-black with a dense, fluffy brown head. Aroma is intoxicating; molasses, oak, whiskey, cocoa, roast malts, vanilla. Taste is very nice, big, complex; roast malt, bitter chocolate, whiskey, wood, alcohol burn, hint of banana, molasses, subtle notes of dark dried fruits (raisins, prunes). Mouth feel is oily, coating. Carbonation is low; suitable for the style and flavor profile. Only very little lacing. Really highly flavorful. The 9.4% ABV is evident. The barrel-aging is very successful, while the use of Crown Royal barrels (specifically) impart some very subtle elevated flavors to the profile. Highly effective in enhancing the flavor of the beer while not allowing the barrel to dominate (as it did with this year’s KBS). shigadeyo (3797) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 2, 2013

7/07/2011: Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged BORIS Royale (Stout Aged in Whiskey Barrels): They call it "Royale with Wood" Aroma: Really subtle... Heavily caramelized malt, rich chocolate, refined coffee, sweet char. Appearance: Pours out black like used motor oil; black as night; just a whispy ring of tan-colored foam. Flavor: Tons of maltiness; splash of vanilla, barrel char, and good whiskey; tons of alcohol venting through the nose; more and more whiskey pops out and dominates as the beer warms. Palate: Completely full bodied; milky and velvety; SMOOOTH... Overall: This beer is HUGE, but I’m just not getting a lot out of it...
fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 9.4% by Vol., 107 OG, 38 FG, 80 IBU) shared by alexsdad06. Thanks Brad! Rating #166 for this beer.
Pours thick black with a small brown ring. As soon as I open it, I can smell the canadian whiskey. There’s also aromas of chocolate tootsie rolls, molasses, and wood. The taste is chocolate, whiskey, licorice, and vanilla. Really great barrel quality to this one. gyllenbock (9990) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 25, 2013
Bottle. (thanks SirLimpsalot)
Black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, ash, chocolate, coffee and some wood. The aftertaste was long. A nice one.
