Aged in bourbon whiskey barrels to add a wonderful complexity to our massive American Double Imperial Stout. This barrel aging imparts memorable buttery, vanilla-like, and savory whiskey character, making this one of our most complex beers we’ve ever brewed. 660 ml bottle (bomber), bottling date 2015-01, vintage. Poured into the snifter. Aroma: soy sauce, very intense belgian pralines, dark chocolate, vanilla. Apperance: jet black, totally unclear with none to minimal head. Taste: WOW! This is what I’ve been looking for in RIS for the whole time. HUGE vanilla. Belgian pralines. Dark chocolate. Soy sauce. Heavy sweetness, medium to heavy, lingering bitterness. Palate: Very full bodied, this is a heavyweight player, oh yeah. Oily, creamy, thick and slicky. Totally flat! Long, bitter chocolate-coffee finish. I’m starting to repeat myself. WOW. Two years after bottling have done the job right. This is truly one of the best three beers I’ve EVER drunk in my life.

Poured from a fresh bottle into a Hoppin Frog snifter. Appearance is like old engine oil with a one finger tan head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, and whiskey. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, coffee, whiskey, licorice. There is also a backend hoppiness and slight smoke. Palate is incredibly smooth and fills the mouth with a nice viscous presence. If you haven’t had this you need to find a bottle. Well worth your time and effort. Cheers.

Almost black beer with some dark brown head. It’s aroma and taste have coffee, whisky, some chocolate and alcohol notes, maybe some vanilla, as well. Amazing beer!

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2015 600cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours thick and black with a brown head which is the darkest I have ever seen) but does not last too long. Aroma is vanilla, bourbon and dark chocolate. Taste is all of these flavours with even more extremeness. A reasonable bitterness to follow these indulgent flavours and a mouthfeel that is so thick that the runs down the outside of the glass didn’t complete their journey before they had solidified into a black river down the glass. Lovely.

Piwo likierowo czarne, z piękna brązową pianą. Aromat zwala z nóg. Cudowna czekolada, praliny, nuty dębowej beczki, wanilia. WOW

200 ml. draft @ Billiees Bier Kafétaria. This is the most expensive draft beer that I have ever purchased at 9 euro for 200 ml. Classical appearance, black, creamy tanned head. Nose is intense thick sweet mocha chocolate, pure pie, brownie and molasses, vanilla, huge pleasant chocolate brownie sweetness even though no clear bourbon. Taste is sweet mocha chocolate caramel, vanilla, chocolate brownie, thick molasses, sugar, cake. Body is thick creamy chocolate & low molasses. Utterly wonderful sweet RIS desert beer, lovely surprise given some lesser experiences with Hoppin’ Frog RIS beers, looking at my score of the base version, the price point might have led to myself justifying this in my head. A definite possibility, I really enjoyed it. I am a sucker for the style. My complaint about the base was the bitterness, bourbon definitely rectified that.

Aroma:
Heavy aroma of malts, caramel, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee.

Appearance:
Opaque black bee with a slight/medium dark brown head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Tastes like dark chocolate milk, holy shit. That bourbon added an insane flavour that the base beer somehow totally needed. I cannot wait till they make a rum variant of the doris. The aroma could have been better, but everything else is perfect.

Piękna drobna, brązowa piana. Przypomina spienione lody czekoladowe. Opada zupełnie. W smaku ciemne słody, wyraźny chmiel, lekka kwaskowośc na końcu. Alkohol bardzo dobrze zamaskowany, ale przyjemnie rozgrzewa.

Delicious. Pours a dark thick balck with a small brown head. Aroma is that chalky chocolate smell. Depp cocoa oak taste with hints of bourbon.
