UPDATED: FEB 4, 2011 Bottle shared at the "AK to the HB" tasting on 12/30/10: Pours a dark amber-brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Thick rings of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and cinnamon. Medium body with a boozy character and flavors of caramel malt, spices and dark fruit. The finish is sweet and malty with a gingerbread aftertaste. Good beer overall. fiver29 (1112) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - DEC 25, 2010
Bottle from Miketd via Buffalohead. Thanks guys! Pours clear dark red/amber color with off white head. Aroma is a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and bourbon. Medium mouthfeel. Flavors follow the aroma quite nicely. The barrel aging toned down the overpowering spices the original version displayed. There is a better balance of the cinnamon, nutmeg, perhaps ginger. But especially the cinnamon. There is also a caramel vanilla note in the middle with a bourbon flavor. And finishes with the vanilla caramel flavor. Outstanding. Bottle from my Secret Santa, thanks Santa Pours a nice deep brown with a bubbly light tan head. The head fades quickly but laces well. Aroma is all christmas spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, just makes you think christmas. Has a light but good carbonation. The flavor is awesome, cinnamon spice and very smooth. Alcohol is very well hidden. Has a medium body. The texture is thin. Awesome mouthfeel. Great finish with a delightful aftertaste. This is just about the best christmas beer I have ever had. Really glad Santa sent me one but now I need to move to Ohio to get this every year. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - DEC 15, 2010
22 oz. bottle via trade with LeopoldStoch - Pours a clear brown color with a 2/3 finger thick light tan head. Light spotty lacing. Aroma is quite spicy. Flavor is ginger bread. I didn’t pick up the barrel aging in the aroma or flavor. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks Brandon. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - DEC 15, 2010
big thanks to veldrid for surprising me with this brew as part of a package since i couldn’t be in ss this time around. pretty much root beer aged ina whiskey barrel, and in the best way! this is a nice beer, its similar to dark horse 4 elves, but has a nice barrel profile added to it. the appearance is dark brown with a lighter head than is fizzy and fades fast. the nose is awesome, sweet, spicey, and ahint of booze in the end to warm it up. all of this can be said about the flavor as well. very sweet, earthy, and the barrel is not overpowering at all. extra point for being a unique brew. they got it right on this one.
