Bottle shared at Beer Temple. Dark brown pour with small beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, soy sauce and some alcohol. Flavour of chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and licorice. Full bodied and low carbonation. JStax (6999) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - APR 8, 2012
Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a brandy snifter. Appearance is black with a thin head of light khaki colored foam. Aroma is chocolate, cocoa nibs, coffee, cinnamon, and maybe just a touch of black coffee. Upon first sip, I really get a cinnamon taste, although I don’t think there is any cinnamon in this beer. The chocolate and bitterness work well with one another on the tongue to bring all the complexities of this beer together. Big, chewy mouthfeel, little carbonation, long, bitter chocolate finish. drewaha (129) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 7, 2012
Pours a tarry black with some carbonation but not a lot. Smells like soy and anise. Rather full bodied and fairly smooth. Has a smoky flavor with a detectable degree of alcohol. Nice beer to share. Couldn’t put the whole thing down myself.
