3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours as dark as night with a half finger mocha colored head that dissipates quickly and leaves a ring of lacing on the glass. Smells of breakfast roast coffee, some roasted malts, maybe a hint of chocolate. Mostly just like a cup of coffee; nothing that stands out. Taste starts with the bold roasted coffee as well as some milk chocolate. Then in the middle, the coffee flavor stays, but is accompanied with some creamy malt (probably oatmeal) that lightens the bold coffee flavor. Then the finish is much of the same, with bold, yet smooth coffee. Also the milk chocolate comes back and is accompanied with some peat flavors on the very back end. Becomes more bitter and a little more complex as it warms. Nothing really stands out with the smell and taste, but the palate is nice. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a light medium body. Nice carbonation presence as well. Hoppin Frog is spot on with the silky mouthfeel. Have had more complex coffee porters. Not bad, but Hoppin Frog has much better offerings.

DØE medlemsmøde. Black with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel and fresh ground coffee beans. Dryish roasted flavour with chocolate and coffee. A little thin compared to stronger family members, but it’s got all the right Hoppin Frog goodness.

Bottle (from boxbeers). Pours dark brown with light brownish head. Aroma is sweet, beany, coffee, roast. Flavor is sweet and bitter, sugar, beany-moldy coffee, roast, malt. Overall: ok, but not sure why they decided to ruin their great porter with beany-moldy coffee.
