pours an alluring mahogany and the nose is straight up boozy.
That is rather pronounced in the flavor, as well, and there is no attempt to mask the 8.2% ABV. Sweet malt, caramel, vanilla, and whiskey come through. Not much hops character at all, just like this style should be.
I really like what Hoppin’ Frog has done here. Big flavors, true to the style, a very high quality beer. I have had four beers from Hoppin’ Frog, and all have been very good to great. SirRaf (23) - - AUG 22, 2013
A really beautiful close to red color in my cup. Caramel, cereal, innapreciate nearly 30 IBUS, fuuuuull body with soft carbonation and a long finish.
Surely it would fit perfect with a great piece of meat...but the lamb just went running DalzAle (2037) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - MAY 4, 2010
Bottle from Stfun (Thanks Josh!) Clear amber pour, little carbonation and a rich sweet caramel/cherry aroma. Flavor is nice and malts, plums, wood and fnishes with a very distinct scotch aftertaste. Really nice beer, and I’m not even much of scotch ale drinker. stimulus (86) - Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 22, 2010
22 oz bottle.
A: Pours a deep ruby red with light beige lacing that dissipates in about 5 minutes.
S: Lusciously sweet caramel with ripe red fruits.
T: Sweet with a strong malty backbone, followed by a fruity finish and distinctively scotch aftertaste.
M: Despite the fact that the head disappeared, the beer retained its carbonation at an almost perfect level, and it is quite light bodied for the style.
D: Goes down quite nicely and the bomber was not too difficult to finish. mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - JAN 28, 2013
One of the better Wee Heavies I've had. Malty sweetness throughout and afterwards, but not excessively so. A hint of caramel as well. Quite syrupy in mouthfeel, but without the negatives I sometimes associate with that. ABV is low for the style, but not too low. A very good beer.

Caramel-copper with modest, creamy, orange-beige head, some legs / Sweet, winey, somewhat thin nose of caramel, cider, baking spice, oak? / Full body, sweet, syrupy but very smooth & creamy, with excellent balance and heat evidence but really just adding a little winey character / Rich but mellow flavors of caramel, orange peel, apple cider, milk chocolate, toffee, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, smoke / A real easy drinker, milkshake-like, for such a big beer. llkc (2342) - århus, DENMARK - JUL 4, 2014

750ml bottle. Dark red color with a thick bubbly head. Slight spotty lacing left behind. Aroma is malty and somewhat scotchy but nothing too over the top, which I was hoping for. The flavor is somewhat sweet and a little boozy. You can definitely taste some of the caramel in there on the back end. Much better then I thought it was gonna be. arkotramathorn (41) - Eau Claire, USA - OCT 3, 2012
Poured golden red with tanish head. Very smooth tasting beer. Malty slightly hoppy, hints of roasted nuts. Slightly sweet for the amount of alcohol. Will buy again. tyler_durden (116) - ITALY - JAN 31, 2013
bottle @ Harvest. It pours dark with a good beige head on top. Very malty with nut and scotch-like hints. Good bitterness. Great beer.
