Super Hoppy is finally back!!! Super Hoppy Pale Ale is now on tap!!! According to the brew crew, this year's version features a hop variety "Simcoe" that is similar to the Columbus hop with a high alpha acid, and yet has a distinctive citrusy aroma - think Cascade on steroids. Also starring in the hop lineup are some Goldings, Fuggles, Marynka, and Nugget. A blend of Caramel Malts tries valiantly to give this beer some balance, but it is doomed from the start just to be a highly "over-the-top" hopped brew - a true hopheads nirvana.

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the tasting glass was hazy yellow with white foam. Nose of tropical fruit, citrus, and maybe some pine. Medium body. Flavor brings mango, citrus, and the finish is bitter. Quite nice.

Draft to half pint at brew pub Spruce and pine, grapefruit, a bit of caramel. Amber, thin creamy off white head. Taste is pine, pepper, spruce, grapefruit.

Reddish orange in color... Aroma of caramel, toffee malts, light citrus hops... Flavor is a blend of caramel malts initially, gives way to intense citrus and piney hop bitterness... Deceivingly hoppy, nice ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I am guessing I had this in October of 09. Just found the ratings in some shorts pockets. On tap at the brewpub. "A souped up amber ale with a hodge-podge of leftover hops and malts. Recipe changes from year to year". Aroma is pretty sweet with some soapiness and mild pine hop aromas. Some caramel malts are barely detectable. Moderately hazy orange-amber body with an off-white head. Starts a little caramelly and sweet with good maltiness. Finishes with sharp, biting, hop bitterness. Dry finish. Grapefruit bitterness and spiciness. Very harshly hopped brew.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy amber with a beige head. Smells malty and quite hoppy. Near full body. Losts of floral, but more grapefruit, hop. Seems a hint of mango. Finishes bitter. Hoppy amber? Malty IPA? Pretty good.

Tap. Wow, very hoppy! Smell was rather floral and rich. Body was has a cloudy copper color, and came to the table with a nice off-white head. Very bitter and dry finish, much more bitter than I expected. I don’t know how popular this beer is, but I think the menu needs to compliment something this heavily hopped.

MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 2, 2006
amber pour thick tan head w/ nice lace. Odd aroma lightly spiced some fuggle notes. Palate is dry and oily. Flavor is a very resinous dry pine. Not very good.

Draft. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Slight grapefruit/grass/earth hop aroma. Muddled hop flavor - grapefruit, pine, grass, earthiness. Fairly dry with lingering piney/earthy bitterness. Lots of hop flavor, just muddled with a combination of PNW and British hops.
