Umm Umm good. A dark ale that hits the spot. Nice balance of malts and hops. A smooth beer I cant wait to drink again! BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - AUG 24, 2003
At Gainesville FLA: Dark brown hue with good head and lace. Aroma hints of roasted malts, semi-sweet chocolate, smoke, berry fruits, barnyard, and wood. Big chocolate taste, round and creamy. A nice twangy hop presence midway through. Nice smooth bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied, soft mouthfeel. Yummy, the best beer here. Borders on being a porter. Recommended. stoutosaurus (157) - Clinton, Mississippi, USA - NOV 25, 2002
Love this brown ale. Very tasty............................................ ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 22, 2002
Eden Prairie, MN location: Similar to the Thoroughbred Red, no aroma. Hops must not brew their beers for that feature. Deep, dark red color with small bubble head and pretty good retention. Roasted malt undertones, strong caramel flavor and medium alcohol aftertaste. A good beer that would be even better with a stronger dose of hops. This is Hops' best beer, although I hope to run across their Big Skeeter Pale Ale when it is 'in season.'

A good beer with above average flavor and a really good finish. I'll always love Hops for getting me into less mainstream darker beers, but now that I know how good beer can be, I've had to mark it down a bit. ChazyRPh (583) - Chazy, New York, USA - SEP 5, 2004
Manchester CT location, Deep garnet pour with again no head dur to bartender error. Roasted malt aroma, dark chocolate. Nicely roasted malt flavor. Chocolate again, good lacing on the glas. Nice bitternedd along the middle.

Poured a dark brown with a thick tan head. The smell is sweet malty strong caramel, brown sugar, upfront with a slight chocolate backdrop. The taste is sweet and delicious chocolate, caramel, a slight nuttiness followed by a minimal hop balance but still dominated by the almost overpowering sweetness in the porter. Decent for the style and for Florida def recommended when in the Ft. Myers area.
