Taster at Hopvine. Yep, I got just a few sips of this before I had to dash off. But I just had to try something with oats AND wheat in the grist. The result is a nice light yellow, with a bit of fizzing foam around the edges. Big Belgian taste, but subdued in the sugary note you usually get in a tripel. Excellent.
[Tap] Cloudy light yellow pour with a soapy white head. Belgian yeast aroma features clove, fruits and wheat malts. Flavors include spicy phenols, banana and cereal grains. On tap at the brewery bar, and served to a fluted flight glass showing a hazed, orangey gold color, with a frothy layer of soft white head foam, and good cling to the wavy lacing. The aroma was soft malt, light yeast, subtle spice, some citrus to the esters, but more banana up front. Light+ bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste also included low bitterness that was slightly earthy. Alcohol was present, but lightly interacted with the other notes. Missing some of that Tripel spiciness & effervescent excitement, where more of a hefe nature seemed to dominate.
