There’s nice cookie-dough-like malt sweetness beneath strong orange and grapefruit citrus hops in the aroma. Clear brown body is topped by a decent, off-white head that recedes to a lasting cover with some lacing. Strong malt flavours offset by strong bitterness with plenty of citrus hop flavours and some resiny notes. Sweetness comes out in the finish but the slightly harsh bitterness really lingers. Medium body with soft-bubbled carbonation makes for a very nice mouthfeel. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle from the BCLS at Hellsgate in January 2012.
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2018 1,500th rating! Pours a nice copper from a can, fair amount of lacing. Big spicy hop flavor was rather surprising until I read the description of the amount of hops in there. Nice citrus notes over a fair malt backbone, not too sweet, prefer it to a lot of IIPAs. Good beer. vulcanmeister (306) - La Grande, Oregon, USA - DEC 23, 2017
Poured on tap at Tap That in La Grande. Beautiful dark whiskey appearance with abundant carbonation and small but long lasting creamy white head. I get pine, sweet carmel, and citrus in the aroma. Very pleasant. The body is full medium. Taste is momentary pause before hops hit, a bit salty, sweetness from malt, a nice slowly evolving finish that hints of biscuit, brown sugar, and hops. The pine lightly whispers all the way to the end of the ride. A Good winter ale. castellano42 (16) - - DEC 18, 2017

Draft. Pours orange with an off white head. Toasted and lightly sweet malts, some floral hop bitterness, faint citrus, and a light toasted malty finish. Solid. Sammy (12995) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 21, 2017
