Not quite to style for a barley wine. SRM was more like a pale than a Barleywine. A little more hops than you’d expect. But for a NW style BW, it’s pretty darn good. A sweet malt and hop aroma, wonderful full, candy, and uber-smooth mouthfeel. Taste was abundant yet balanced!
Pours hazy golden with eggshell head. Malty aroma has strong hard candy note. Flavor has malty, hoppy, fruity and bourbon-like tones. Texture is firm and smooth, if not overly fizzy andrewje41 (4245) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - DEC 19, 2014
Draft at special brews. Listed as barrel noggin floggin 2010. Pours a dark orange color with no head. Really strong aroma with cookie and booze. Smooth flavor, graham cracker. Not as much barrel feel to it as expected. Pretty basic barleywine, but tasty for sure. Low drinker, but enjoyed it. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - OCT 12, 2013
Draft at sb. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber with bright golden brown edges. Sweet honey, vanilla, bourbon, and oak on the nose. Sticky thick body with soft carb. Caramel, toffee, honey, and apricot on the mid palate. Much mellower and more harmonious than it was a few months ago. riversideAK (6265) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Plastic menthol vodka and bourbon nose. Dough plastic pale malt. Asprim hops. Wow. Residual sugar. Hazy orange pour thin head ans lace. Flavors of vodka and bourbon sweet dough white sugar. Tons of vodka. Long lingering bourbon and medicine. Damn. Smurf2055 (1400) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Light ruby color. Very light smell. Malty and drinkable for a barley wine, and well carbonated. Interesting brew. mcberko (18950) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 13, 2011
3 oz. sample on tap at Brouwer’s Café for Hard Liver, pours light golden. Aroma of pine and citrus hops, light caramel – bitter notes dominate the nose. Flavour is hoppy with caramel, light fruits, light oaky and bourbon notes. Very nice. Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 25, 2011
Light coppery amber, white head leaving streaks of spidery lacing. Smells soapy and spicey and a touch dank, not a lot of sugars/malt noticable for a barley wine. Light biscuity malt flavor, becomes earthy, spicy, dank, hay notes, mildly bitter lingering finish. A bit lighter bodied than I would expect from a barleywine. Not terribly impressed with this compared to the other beers I’ve enjoyed from HUB. trevor211 (1681) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 22, 2011
Pours crazy light for a barley wine - looks like a pale! Very malt-forward for HUB - and with just the right amount of bourbon in the flavor. It’s a bit hot, and is sorely lacking in complexity... but a good effort nonetheless. neepsntatties (2041) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 7, 2010
On tap at HUB. Colour... just like unfiltered cidre! Nose... prune-like with hints of soy sauce and raisins. Palate... Bourbon up front with brown sugar, molasses, sappy oak, vanillin and a lengthy shot of prune juice on the finish.
