Black IPA / Cascadian Dark Ale (yes, it’s a style now). Really good toasted malt flavor. Very dark brown color. Delicious beer. bb (9501) - Alamo, California, USA - APR 16, 2013
Draft. Dark mahogony beer with a cream head. Grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and light cocoa flavor with light darker malts. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light cocoa linger with light earth and light darker malts. crossovert (13078) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Great maltiness in this one but the hops just aren’t bold enough to support them properly in a black ipa. ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - MAR 5, 2013
Draft from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours dark brown/black, off-white head. Aroma sharp and resinous, lively body, not too malty. Very crisp and clean, compared to some more malty versions of the style. Finish is almost a bit sweet and slightly roasty. Very enjoyable, especially for the price. andrewturba (1190) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 18, 2012
Pours a very dark brown with some sediment on the bottom possibly hops, big light brown head that stays and laces the glass really nicely. Aromas of roasted malt, pine, grassy. Flavours of chocolate/roasted malts, pine to grapefruit to grassy transition with just the right amount of medium bitterness that doesn’t over stay its welcome.

Pours a clear black with a brown hat that leaves sticky lace on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, pine & grass. Taste is citrus pine uo front then transitions into the dark chocate malts and finishes with a grassy bitterness. Excellent cascadian ale. 650 ml bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with very light head. Aromas piney/citrus hops and over ripe fruit. Flavors of roasted malts and a bit of dark fruit. Piney and bitter throughout. robforbes (2246) - Bremerton, Washington, USA - SEP 28, 2012
pours a black with a ruby tint and a small tan head.
smell is of hops, roasted malt, pine, a slight organic funk, and a little floral.
taste is tangy, bitter, hoppy, malt in the back, and a touch of caramel. ends smooth and bitter. Lagerboy (2221) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 19, 2012
Unclear darkest brown, creamy light brown head slowly fades. Pungent citrus grassy hops and smokey roasty malty aroma. Big bold bitter hop and burnt dark malt taste, some coffee and caramel. Average carbonation, full bodied, heavily hopped makes this brew DNFL (Definately Not For Lagerboys) hayduke (5548) - Eureka, California, USA - JUL 2, 2012
Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Poured a very dark brown tending toward black with big foamy tan head. The nose is citrus and floral hops, Medium to full in body with a resin mouthfeel. The flavor is well roasted malts with a big hop set of flavors including pine, citrus, and flowers. There is a nice bitterness that carries over into the finish. To me this sort of defines what a black IPA should do with a great balance between the roasted malts and hops. Very nice.
