A specialty beer from the Oberpfalz in North-eastern Bavaria. This beer style is closely related to old-fashioned Czech pilseners (the area borders on Bohemia, which is called Čechy in Czech, by the way), which are much milder than their modern varieties, and hard to find locally. Not in Bavaria, however, where every brewery has its own variety. As it is, this is a much maltier beer with notably less hop and a pronounced yeasty note. The mouthfeel is that of the ’liquid bread’ beers so common in industrial areas in Germany, intended to quench the workers’ thirst, in this case built up in the glass and porcelain works that used to abound there. The label is in the classic ’Wimmelbild’ style of small German breweries, showing the churches (it’s a suffocatingly Catholic region) and town hall with fountain in front, as they are to be found in Mitterteich, where the brewery stands. Two coats of arms and lettering in no less than five different fonts battle for attention. Nicest is the brewery’s own coat of arms, with the Lederhosen prominently on the blue-and-white of Bavaria: ’the li’l breeches fit’, is their slogan (s’ Hösl passt). And don’t forget, when you’re in the area around Easter, to take part in the local custom of egg tapping! MichaelAwesome (6546) - Wanne-Eickel, GERMANY - FEB 3, 2013

Das LandGold startet lieblich-honigtönern, um dann kräftig herb zu werden. Einfach gestrickt, lässt es sich schnörkellos trinken. Gute Süffigkeit, mir schmeckts.
