Christos (5743) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - FEB 14, 2014
Awint top bottle at home, 500 ml. Into a Guinness pint, ABV 5.2% Clear golden yellow colour on the body, two fingers of soapy white head on top. Average retention, light lacing on the glass. Aroma of grass, malts, soap, light citrus. Taste follows the aroma, light citrus that goes well with the malty sweetness, grass. Thin body, low carbonation. Overall okay I guess as a beer, not exactly on style, but is drinkable quite a bit.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein goldgelbes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig würzig, Geschmack angenehm malzig würzig mit ganz minimaler Bitterkeit.

GoufCustom (2000) - HONG KONG - DEC 20, 2013

500 ml bottle as part of Höss’ Xmas 4-pack bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Golden amber colour; One finger head and crumpet white foam which lasts for 1 minute and faded with powder-like remains; Small sticky lacing with active carbonation; Quite fragrant sweet aroma of malt, light honey, bread, dough, light citrus and grass; Mid to light sweet taste of malt, with flashes of cherry tartness, grains, light honey, molasses, biscuits, bread, strong liquorices, lemon and sharp grass; Medium body, thick and slightly oily palate; Mouth feel is rich and thick, with honey and unique sour cherry tinge. Nicely combined and showed strong traits of a Maerzen. Pretty nice! Hoppiness is light honey, citrus and sharp grass in nose and taste. Liquorices and bitterness are strong, combined with grassy hops for a quite nice and lasting finish; Pretty dry after taste, richly sweet and tart to mouth.

Comments: This one is a rather good Helles from the usually average Höss line-ups. Flet head aside, it’s thick and wholesome, full malt with good balance of honey sweet and fruity tartness topped with good bitterness. More like a Maerzen and way better than the wishy-washy Adlerkönig of the same brand, definitely one of my go-to German lager. A cool one!
