Very nice bottle design. Pours dark ruby red with flat head, that disappears very quickly. Smells malty fruity, with lots of plum. Starts sweet malty, slight sugary, with some plum and licorice. Goes into a malty-sugary and slight fruity. Awesome Doppelbock!!!

Bottle. Moderate-lightly metallic and oxidized. Other than that it is sweet and unbalanced, mostly malty with singledimensional caramel character. Not to my taste.

Pours clear, ruby red brown. Decently sized, medium low stability, lightly off-white head. Smell is caramel. Minor breadcrusty notes. Taste is medium sweet to sweet. Very caramelly. Bit earthy, somewhat breadcrusty hidden underneath the caramelly flavors. Slick MF, medium carbo. Ending is almost chocolaty, less caramelly, more towards the dark bread (crust ) alcohol is very hidden. A bit too uncomplex and sweet to me.

Looks and smells inviting: rich amber-red clear colour, not much head which dissipates quite quickly, but enough remains to keep it looking alive; the smell is around roast, bread, cheese, herbs but quite sweet caramel smell and taste. Despite the sweet smell and limited head the initial sweet creamy taste on the tongue also accommodates a quite lively and sour response in the mouth and a long after-taste persists. A great bottle of beer and with a flip top you can enjoy it in stages, but this might need willpower.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2018 From bottle. Pours clear golden with thin white head. Flavors of grain, a little sweetness, some very faint booze. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2017 Reddish brown to black , hazy, off-white head; aroma is sweet and malty, grainy, slightly yeasty; taste is very sweet, the alcohol shines through, dried fruits, lingering sweet finish; texture is thick and sticky with average carbonation; too sweet, lacks balance

From a 500ml bottle on 26/8/2017. Pours a clear dark brown/amber with a small to medium head. The aroma is sweet and malty, with caramel, toffee and a touch of smoked meat. Taste wise, it’s similarly sweet and malty - more caramel and toffee, lots of brown sugar and treacle, along with a hint of smoky meat. There is the mildest bitterness at the back, which suits the overall experience nicely. The palate is slick and the carbonation moderate. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and enjoyed this one very much.

hawthorne00 (4190) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 25, 2017
Bottle, 11C. Clear copper with a pale beige head that fades. Aroma is malty with some sticky bread crusts, hazelnuts, herbal notes. Sweet and rather heavy with lowish carbonation. Lots of caramelised malty notes but not a lot of character. Nice herbal-tinged bitterness is still not quite enough to lighten the load, so it’s neither quite drinkable enough nor deep enough. Still, it’s decent.

ALLOVATE (3087) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 23, 2017
Into a deep snifter at cellar temperature. Ruby hued brown body with good clarity. Oily legs lead to a short-lived off-white head. Rich, spiced madeira nose softened by notes of loam, compost and earth, nutty praline, rust, leather and overcooked banoffee pie. Quite rich with melanoidins creating a complex mix of flavours drowned by tannic rust/blood flavours. Nutty and woody; chewy with earthy umami notes like stewed beef or Swiss brown mushroom (the second beer of this brewer to have this!!). Alcohol is evident but not enough to balance the earthy malts. Body is light for a double bock. End is long but just a continuation of the palate. Overall it is dry despite the richness of melanoidins. Unique, but a little too askew of my preferred interpretation of Doppelbock. A rough and interesting beer. (50cL swing top, BB 20/03/18, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
