On tap aMedium amber color. Feels like it should be a bit more red than amber. Nose shows faint hints of mineral and dry fruit notes. The mouth is mildly hopped, with some dried fruit notes. Pretty neutral and boring.

caramel, cereal, raisin, brown, hazy, light sweetness, lightly sour. Dark, hazy brown. Modicum of foam. Cherries and sweet malts on the nose. Nice mild sweetness, fades into sourness and an abrupt dry end. One was enough, but perfectly fine for an alt.

Eiwa Hotaka Alt 5% A clear brown that comes off sort of flat, there's a big beige head of foam and it leaves large clumps of lacing behind. Weird cinnamon, caramel, butterscotch & a sharp tannic quality. The taste is astringent, nutty, bitter, malty caramel. Meh, this is very sharp and lacks smoothness in flavor or body. Not so obviously off but it's kind of mediocre. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I had this and the Kolsch, and this was the loser in my comparison. Richer color. More metallic taste, some caramel, quicker finish and limper palate, feeling rather hollow toward the end, and not especially enjoyable. Bottle.

Pours an amber colour with a white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, earth, some fruit and hints of hops. Taste is light sweet. OK.

Everything that is wrong with jibiru. Made by a confectionary company?! This is a bland, pissy, hopless slightly caramel malt beer. In its defense it becomes more palatable as it warms, but its still a big, fat waste of time. 750 yen for 500ml is akin to highway robbery for a product of this caliber.

Bottle. Pours a light brown with no head. A sweet toffe-like nose. Some butterscotch (like the Kolsch), but a grainy dryness balances this out more.

KyotoLefty (10126) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAY 30, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Pretty, glowing amber-copper color with a fine head. Aroma of cherry, earthy caramel. Earthy caramel flavor, nice grassy, earthy hops, some fruit fruitcherry. Tasty and dry overall. Tastes like an alt! Decent. A bit too gassy, and too gold, but good enough.

(Nov 05) A clear dark Amber, orange colored brew with a foamy tan head. Smells like a watered down peaty scotch. A bittersweet taste, some malty sweetness, slight smoke and a mild bitter follow. Like popping a penny in your mouth. Not bad but not very exciting. I think I found this at the same place larsga did!

Dark brown colour with a reddish hue. Tall white fluffy head that clings to the glass. Bready flour-like aroma. Sourish aroma, but there is a strong mnchener malt aroma. Medicinal. Powdery texture. Dry finish.
