Draught at Volo. Opaque brown / black colour in a tulip glass. Tropical fruits in the aroma with roasted malts. Resinous. Avocado, white grapefruit, orange zest. Full bodied and chewy. Bitter flavour with ruby grapefruit, clementine orange, citrus zest, pine. Nice malt balance. Some lactose. Fruity tropical finish with mango. kevinsenn (2263) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 7, 2012
On tap at Volo. Pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma is slightly roasty, with big fruity hops - fantastic! In the flavour we have roast, licorice, cream, hops, and a bitter finish. Big huge body. Just what a Black IPA should be! robinvboyer (4740) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 29, 2012
ON tap at Volo.
Jet black pour, with a large beige head.
Big aroma of pine, resinous hops, and some bold roasted malts, with touches of espresso. Perfect mouth feel and carbonation. The finish was bitter, and incredibly roasty. Nice pine hoppy finish with a great coffee bite. amazing example of the style. barncatmatt (2287) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 26, 2014
On cask at cask days 2014. Very hoppy, wonderfully expressive black ipa. I don’t know how much the cask presentation helped this but I’d have to say that this was one of the best black ipa experiences of my life. Great stuff. January 30, 2012 - on cask at Volo. They say this is better on draught, but helldamn it’s fantastic on cask. Pretty much opaque brown-black with a large and lasting fluffy tan rocky head (4+). Aroma is a solid dry roasty mild almost overwhelmed by lush, dry, resin bitterness - sort of three floyds-y - not much alcohol in the aroma, but almost perfect, it works so well! Taste follows, more roast/coffee pushing back on the hops, more assertiveness from the alcohol, but once again it works soooo well. Average body, mild carbonation, a near perfect mouthfeel for cask, and very very hoppy indeed, but not over the top. Love this. Make it again!!!

From notes, at Bar Volo. Pours a very dark colour with almost no head. Aroma of hops and roasted grains. Flavours of nice hop bitter, some yeast notes and slightly sweet toasted malts. neongolden (1789) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 22, 2014
(On tap at Bar Volo, Mar 20 2014) Pours black with a dense, frothy tan head, some lace. Lovely aroma of chocolate/roasted malts and a lot of hops, resinous but also some fruit character, grapefruit/tropical. Flavour has somewhat sweet dark malts, moderate roast, a fair amount of resinous, grapefruit pith hop character to start. Towards the finish, moderate hop bitterness combined with some roast, fairly dry and reasonably refreshing ending. Mouthfeel is quite full and carb soft, very nice to drink. Top notch black IPA, good balance of hop and roast character. Recommended. blankboy (7788) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 24, 2012
Draft at Volo. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size semi-lasting frothy tan head. Good lacing. Nice aroma with lots of green leafy hops, some fruit, a hint of coffee and backed by light roasted malt. Big hoppy flavour, lots of leafy hops along with light roasted malt, some coffee, fruit and a big bitter finish. Average to medium bodied, almost creamy mouthfeel. There are too many Black IPAs these days and more that I dislike then like, but this is great stuff, I loved it.

Cask at Volo. First of all - great name. It appeals to my inner chemist. Deep black with a tight creamy amber/brown head. The aroma is soft and resiny. A light pine and woody hop aroma over some soft cocoa. A bit of roast and some char as well. Assertively hopped with a nice grey bitterness on the back. Sticky sort of pine resin on the palate along with some nice cocoa accentuating the bitterness. It’s got a fantastic mouthfeel - soft carbonation and a silky smooth palate. Rich and creamy that is then cut by the bitterness. Nice stuff - to another hundred batches! garthicus (2942) - Dublin, IRELAND - APR 20, 2012
