October 25, 2011 - on gravity cask at Volo, pre- Cask Days 2011. Clear deep ruby-brown with a nice mottled frothy tan/beige head. Classic mild aroma nutshell dry roast, bit of cocoa and herbal bitterness, no alcohol detected - VERY dry. Taste - just what I like in a classic mild; not too bitter, nutshell, balancing herbal bitterness, a hint of acidity, not sweet at all - the alcohol emerges a bit, but still balanced. Appropriately thin (goes down fast), acceptable cask carbonation, light on the tongue, finishes quick, dry and a bit pithy. Once again, Ralph makes a solid, solid mild (Matt gets cred too, obviously). mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 14, 2011
[4077-20111030] Cask. Grainy earthy grass malt aroma. Dark brown black body with a long-lasting bubbly off-white head. Grainy malt flavour has a sweet caramel base. Medium body is a little bitter. Good. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

A reddisn brown ale with a thin big bubbled mocha head. In aroma, a smooth nutty caramel with light British hops, and light coffee notes. In mouth, a nice oily chocolate with light herbal notes, faint British hops, not bad. On tap at Volo, Oct. 29 2011. robinvboyer (4670) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 7, 2011
cask days 2011.
very dark brown pour, great aroma of caramel malts, some breads, and a wonderful nuttiness. very little hops, and more of that great nuttiness round out he finish. a beer you could easily drink all night. great stuff. JulienHuxley (5809) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 5, 2011
Cask at volo. Dark brown (almost black!) pour, with tight white head. Aroma is quite roasty, fresh leafy hops, burnt caramel and bread. Kind of surprised by how dark and roasty this mild was. Taste is bitter, nice roasted grain flavors, almost a bit smokey, bitter hop finish. A surprising beer.

Aroma floral, light herbal hints , green hop sides.
Appearance dark brown with bright white top.3+
Flavor and Palate : medium bodied. Mild dark depth of dark malts with straight bittering character. Mild , slight silkiness in body. Satisfying , drinkable session brew.
2011-10-30. Very dark brown body, small frothy beige head. 3+ Hoppy aroma, green leafy touches. 6+ Flavour is fairly dry, modest bitterness, bit of green hop character, dry finish. Mild roast lingers into the aftertaste. Average bodied palate. Okay, I suspect I was not really in the mood for this when I had it, so it might fare better at another time. Cask Days 2011, Toronto swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 1, 2011

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2011 Bar Volo, some coffee, chocolate. A little astringent. Below expectations as they have brewed some good milds, but will rerate if I get to try again. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 26, 2011
Deep amber-brown pour with a little bit of haze. There’s a bit of light fresh malt and a little bit of light licorice along with some dark chocolate roastiness. A touch of chocolate as well. A little bit of an almost cola-ish
character and a fairly assertive herbal hop character that I enjoy. Solid and quite lovely.
