COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Formerly known as "Hövels Original Bitterbier". Nowadays sold Germany-wide with the additive "Feinherbes Rotgold".

Pale brown and clear. Smells and tastes rather metallic. Fairly plain with light bitterness in the finish. Some malt and a touch of bread.

Aus der Flasche getrunken (Danke an Veronika). Rotgold mit schöner weißer Schaumkrone im Glas. Allerdings nur ein durchschnittliches Alt.

Clear, copper-amber colored, medium- off white head. Aroma is malty, some caramel, bit fruity, some herbal notes. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel, bit bready, some fruity and herbal notes, light+ bitterness, sweetish finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.

0,5 l bottle @ Aufsturz, Berlin. Appearance is brown, clear and great head. Taste is bitter and floral, something like a really good real ale bitter. Yap, this was tasty. Quite an original among German beers.

(Bottle) Poured a clear tan/amber colour. Aroma of dark malts. High carbonation but little head which struggled to remain longer than a few seconds. Tastes like some extract homebrews I have tried only with a cleaner finish. Interesting

Nett, nicht mehr. Leicht karamelig nussige Nase, a little bit Würzhopfaromen und ein frisch erdiger Trunk, mit einen Tick Malzsweetness, lassen den Sud gut wegrutschen. 0,3 vom Hahn beim heißen neuen Mexikaner am Dreiecksplatz.

Aroma: caramel and melanoidins, iron. Appearance: clear reddish-golden color and amazing creamy head. Taste: iron, caramel, melanoidins, low herbal bitterness, dry. Palate: low body and high carbonation. Overall: Rather strange combination of alt and vienna lager. Drinkable, that’s all.

Bottle. Beautiful Red colour. Smells of central european hops and malts. Reminds me of a Pils. Taste is nutty, bitter and metallic. Long lasting bitter finish. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is somewhere between creamy and watery. This is not outstanding but an alright brew. Not sure about the style though, feels like a mix of Alt and Pils.

Backlog. Swingtop bottle at bar in Hamburg. Amber colour, builds an impressive, creamy head. Malt, caramel and floral notes. Medium- to full-bodied taste is rich and mealy, bitter aftermath. Good.

Indeed a beer that distinguishes it self from others by its special red-gold color and warm roasty taste.
