Monk's Gold is light and hoppy, made with Halcyon and Crystal malts, and Styrian Goldings hops. Monk's Gold is a relative newcomer but is proving to be extremely popular. Above Glossop to the south is the hill of Whiteley Nab, and across this hill winds Monks Road. Legend has it that the monks used this road to transport their gold from their local estates to their abbey in North Wales - or at least to nearby Charlesworth, where the road ends. After all this exertion, they would no doubt have appreciated a few pints of the crisp, clear, tasty Monks Gold.

Towey1989 (3034) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2016
Cask at The Horse & Jockey, Stapleford. A clear deep golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of lemon, slight grapefruit, a hint of white pepper, toasted malts, a little toffee and subtle grassy hops. Taste of toasted malts, some toffee, lemon, a little grapefruit and subtle grassy hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A slightly peppery, grassy hop bitterness in the finish. A well balanced golden ale, isn’t exciting but a sessionable beer overall.

Has good body and texture, not much aroma but a fairly well balanced real ale.

tombyars (1724) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 25, 2012
Tasted this at the Three Judges, Glasgow in October 2008. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear gold in colour with a thin white head. Slight citric note in the short aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt base gives a fruity marmalade note with sharp grapefruit zest. Bitter hop resins impart an astringent dusty aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with citric fruit still evident. An ok session Golden Ale and quite refreshing.
